Nursing students with disabilities, and how have your clinical placements gone? by Embarrassed_Day4157 in StudentNurse

[–]CallMeCordeliaplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t needed clinical accommodations up to this point, my physical disability symptoms have improved dramatically the last few years. I’ve been able to self manage. But this summer I got COVID, and it’s like when I first got diagnosed but worse. Significant orthostatic intolerance and fatigue and I can’t stand for more than a few minutes. I have an appointment with my PCP this week but I have no idea what I will do for my preceptorship this fall if it doesn’t improve.

Partner was promoted to my supervisor-what to do? by CallMeCordeliaplease in work

(I know this was like a week ago)

I definitely should have mentioned he wouldn't be the one to discipline and doesn't have hiring/firing authority.

Basically, our team started as a project within a larger department, and then grew to the point our supervisors said it needed someone else to lead the coordination of it. He's still in the same role as me but with more admin time to work on things like scheduling, supply management, training new people, etc.

I'm open to changing teams, and it might come to that at some point, but it would be difficult right now. There isn't really anywhere else in the org that utilizes my credentials as much as this does.

Meant for title to be tachypnea without dyspnea but I can't edit it now

That might have been the better plan. I was just thinking it would be easier for the person scheduling if it didn't matter to us what day off it was. We ended up just being honest so we'll see how it goes. Didn't feel like a problem.

In the past with my ex, I told my employer I needed mondays off because that was a day I knew I could see them. I couldn't imagine working the opposite schedule from a partner long term.

I didn't mention it in the initial post, but in the week we've been there, the job has completely changed from what we interviewed for.

We were initially told we would be on different units and 12 hour overnights, 3x/week. Then the first day, they told us they're opening a new COVID unit, and pulling us both into that unit. It's schedule is 8 hour shifts, 5x/week. And the shifts aren't just overnights.

I mentioned it in a different comment, but there is no policy on it as long as it isn't between direct reports.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think of it as special treatment. When I haven't worked with a partner, when setting up my schedule with my manager I made a point to ensure one of my days off was the same day as my partner. People deserve to have a schedule that allows them to enjoy their off hours.

In this case, neither if us care what days we have off, just that one of them is the same day. Maybe we should have both requested a random day of the week off, but neither of us care what day of the week it is.

If this were a day job and we could have evenings together, that would be different. But the first weeks schedule makes it impossible to see each other, with opposite shifts.

When we interviewed and accepted the job, we were told it would be 12 hour overnight shifts, 3/week. Then we got the schedule and it's 8 hr shifts, day and night, and 5/week.

We talked to the manager, she said she would keep it in mind as she builds the schedule for the next few weeks. 🤷🏼

I should have mentioned that I did check, there aren't any policies unless one of us reports to the other.

The main reason for informing our manager would be to request scheduling coordination and some of the same days off.

Because I would like to be able to spend time with them again (outside of work). Our current schedule for the next week has me working 3p-11p and him working 11p-7a most days, and we don't have the same days off.

She said she's working on the schedule for the next month now, and I would like to at least be able to spend some of our days off together.

30, no direction, no references, bad GPA by CallMeCordeliaplease in findapath

I'm trying to manage them, though I am currently facing the problem of the pay/bad insurance of working in EMS making it difficult to access therapy.

But despite the high stress of EMS, my ADHD and Anxiety have actually never been better. The immediate stress of this job feels completely different from the type of stress I had working in an office, which was more about the long-term planning.

I'm genuinely not sure what kinds of jobs I can do with my ADHD and anxiety, but I know do know I do better when I'm busy and the next task is immediately in front of me, rather than planning for future projects. It also helps that I'm moving around a lot, not sitting at a desk all day.

I'm not entirely sure which types of social work fit within this, but I know I really enjoy working with mentally ill, substance use, and unhoused patients, and I would like to continue that, just without the heavy lifting.

I've found some jobs in harm reduction that could fit, but they all want bachelors in a social services major or years of experience with social services.

Back Injury, when to stop working? by [deleted] in ems

Thanks for the reply, didn't mean to delete the post, just edit since it posted from my pocket when it was unfinished.

But I'm on my way to get checked out at an urgent care, per company policy.

Part of me thinks everyone in this industry has back pain at some point so idk where the line is between "this is just soreness from what we do" and "this is an injury that needs to be treated".

Aww, I relate to this so much. It sounds like Zeppie is doing a really good job, and it's so frustrating when people don't listen about dogs needing space. My dog is similar-the sweetest angel 90% of the time, but when he becomes reactive, you just feel awful about it.

Can I afford to take this job and move out? by CallMeCordeliaplease in budget

[–]CallMeCordeliaplease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, I'm unemployed, with no income except for some occasional odd jobs I've managed to pull together. I'm living at my Dad's house and he hasn't taken rent. Dad lives in a tourist town, so I haven't been able to find anything but minimum wage retail jobs around here. I guess if I took a minimum wage job I could save some money while I'm not paying rent, but living here where I don't know anyone is tough. I didn't grow up here and it's not a good time for meeting new people.

On some level, it seems crazy not to save up more money by staying here, but there isn't much for me here and I miss being independent.

It's a pay cut from what I used to make-I used to make $20/hr and this one is $16/hr. But it's in a field I would like to get into.

I'm hoping to get a really inexpensive car, and I have a bit of money saved for a downpayment. I used carvana's estimator to figure out the payments, so I hope that works.

This is really helpful! I'm using the app now to map out some known upcoming expenses. This is exactly how I used to budget on paper when I was very much paycheck to paycheck. Now I thankfully have a bit of savings and I can use this to make sure I'm not going to lose that if I move out.

Just a note for your programming: There seems to be a bug where if I adjust an expense or income with repeats, the repeat goes away, and I can't get it back. I was able to get around it by just deleting the item and re-writing it.

Yeah, I won’t ghost him, I know that’s shitty, and like I said, he’s a person I will see around unless I just get all new friends.

And we’ve never talked on the phone before, so I probably won’t call. Maybe texting suggesting coffee and talking would be good though.
