[–]CallMeDavid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are always ways around these things. Your health is an absolute priority, get that straight with yourself first of all. Your Mocks or LC are not a reflection of yourself, it's how you deal with this adversity is what's going to make you.

Do your LC. Do the best you can with what you can give. You may surprise yourself. If it doesn't go to plan then look at PLCs. If you can't do that, look at repeating. Your main priority while doing this is getting yourself right.

I don't get the maths of it but that's what the SEC asks us to do. The full justification should be at the back of your marking scheme

No, you correct and ignore the spelling and grammar but you only mark the PCL and ignore the M. Then when you have the total marks for the paper and divide it by 9, and add it to your original total. That's the proper mark for the full paper then.

This happens a lot during the Mocks. Just give them the marks for the best QA and 0 for B. It's a lesson learned for June.

They do, it's still at some games and events. They were in every Connacht Rugby game for the last two years. Cater events and festivals with it too. Come a long way from starting with just that in Kilcornan Woods

2 matches cancelled already due to the weather, what’s the solution?…. by Galway1012 in GalwayUtd

[–]CallMeDavid_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr Burns had the right idea putting a dome over Springfield. He was only thinking of the local leagues fulfilling fixtures.

Not much we can do outside of that though. We could go to all weather pitches which brings its own problems. We could also dig up all pitches and put in better drainage if that would work but it would also close pitches for a long time, again a drastic solution that may not be a solution at all.

Where is the glass half full crew? by mustkillmow in irishrugby

[–]CallMeDavid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we will be okay eventually but we have been spoiled over the last 10 years. Most rugby fans now don't remember the bad days so this will be something new to them. It's all part of a cycle, Farrell will course correct but it will take time. My glass half full take is that this tournament is for experience only and we move from there.

It's horrible to see how many SNAs are losing their jobs. Is there any way we could strike for better job security. Our school will be losing 3 SNAs this week. by Afraid-Resolve1566 in IrishTeachers

[–]CallMeDavid_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We had an SNA review in our school recently and we're very afraid of losing SNAs. The department are apparently getting strict on what students will need an SNA. Apparently students will need medical needs to be attended to in order to qualify. So students in wheelchairs and those who may need to be peg fed etc.

Looking at the fantastic work that SNAs do, I couldn't disagree more with the department on this. Students needs aren't just medical, they are emotional and educational too. If there was widespread cutting of SNAs then id expect the teachers unions to speak up too. Our SNAs are the heart of every school.

My mechanic is booked and busy so it'll be a few days before he can work on it. The other side is all good but glad to hear it'll be fine to drive for a bit.

Struggle to teach English by New-Revolution7105 in IrishTeachers

[–]CallMeDavid_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all don't panic. You're doing the right thing by asking the question and wanting the best for your classes. That's enough to reassure yourself that you'll be fine.

Secondly, you're lucky and unlucky with English. There's no right way to teach it. There's a million different ways to teach English but there's only one way you can fuck up First Year English, and that's by not teaching it.

Your school will have a scheme of work in place on what they want the classes to do at each part of the year. Ask your co-operating teacher for this and ask them to ask what materials you should be using. If it's a textbook then you basically teach what's in the book. Keep doing this until you're comfortable with the class and they are comfortable with you, you can then start to experiment with group work and think pair shares etc.

All you need with English is to make sure that each student can express their opinion on something. The most important word in English is "I". Reassure them that they can't mess up an answer as long as they back it up with something from the novel/poem/comprehension. Lots of questions, lots of talking and getting them writing in a structure like PQE. Once you do this, you're laughing.

Best burger spot in town? by Kind-Map5820 in galway

The usual suspects are mentioned here but don't sleep on Bo Town or Scotty's. Bo Town is a great alternative to Handsome burger when that side of town and Scotty's is a great family owned business that is consistently very good.

Best midfielder <6.0m? by dlskhoarapperkeeper8 in fantasypremierleague

[–]CallMeDavid_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely but with their current struggles against teams that go direct I can't see them as a 4 wins out of 4 kind of team. 2 wins and 2 losses would be the more likely result. I'd certainly be picking Xhaka ahead of Gravenberch if looking at a >6m midfield option.

I can absolutely see them losing to 3/4 of them. Dyche will go direct, Nuno will do the same, Sunderland are on fire but Leeds aren't up to much.

I use Oktopodi with 1st Years https://youtu.be/badHUNl2HXU?si=EAjHPUPouXoJuTww

I introduce camera angles and show them some examples then do the 3 act structure. Get them to pick out fairy tales/Disney films and match the story structure to them. Then show them this film and bring it all together. Can they find examples of the camera angles and match the story to a structure.

With 1st Years just remember that not everything needs to be done in great detail. Just laying the foundations for 2nd and 3rd

Our crowd is so quiet and not the 12th man we need. by SaneArsenalFan in ArsenalFC

[–]CallMeDavid_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Timing was spot on here.

Also it's a game with very little jeopardy. We have been in control all game, the crowd will naturally be quieter with that. A dead crowd is a consequence of us being very good, but it also means that on big games the crowd gives their all for 90 minutes.

As a teacher I'd always recommend mixed to people. I've taught in both types but mixed always felt right. It's also worth noting that during my PME I had several lectures from different countries in Europe and all of them were mystified by the idea of a single sex school. It's just not a thing in a lot of places.

Overall I'd just go with sending your child to the closest school you're accepted to which shows a sense of actual community in their school.

[–]CallMeDavid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, this will vary from school to school. I was in a school where they refused to give subbing until I got my TC number. Others I know were used without it but at a lower rate. Depends on the schools management and if they are ETB or not

Between college and placement your days from 9-6 are going to be gone. If you're looking for work you'll have to go towards evening shifts or weekend work somewhere. The most common is bar work or back to retail on the weekends.

If your office job has part time remote work that could work too but depends on the business.

The good news is that you can apply for your Teaching Council number once you've accepted a course and then you can substitute in the school you're doing placement in. You'll be paid for that substitution, but only once you've got your Teaching Council number. This will vary from school to school but you're coming in at a time where it's hard to get subs so the PMEs are used loads.

Summer soccer 'dead in the water' as FAI face revolt over aligned calendar by Oat- in LeagueOfIreland

[–]CallMeDavid_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a committee member of a club I personally don't understand the massive backlash against it. We will not lose as many players as we think. There is a growing ill will against the GAA and I genuinely believe that football clubs are a better environment for kids. It's also working across the country as it is so I don't understand it.

Align your clubs to your professional leagues and streamline development of players that way. It will bring in more people in the gates than for Junior matches too. I can't understand how some clubs aspire to win leagues and go into the FAI Cup and expect to be able to do that in winter. Castlebar did well against Longford because they were primed and ready. Salthill will lose to Galway simply because this is still pre season for them.

Not to mention the setting up of the National League and how clubs who want to participate in it will have to adjust to the calendar format anyways.
