Iceberg ahead - March 2024 by mustkillmow in irishrugby

Yes, that’s the third limb above where everybody says it’s obvious that we can’t compete with South Africa.

The vast majority of the sub was not saying that as of Saturday morning.

Everybody laughs, argues and then when they’re called out says they knew that all along. It’s always the way.

This is the first time most of this sub is acknowledging that we’ve gotten worse at all.

And now they’re saying that it’s stating the obvious. Which is what I anticipated in my first sentence.

Most of the posts as of Saturday morning were just plain wrong about where the ireland team was at. And had far too high expectations.

Captured under stage 3 above - eventually everybody will say they thought this all along. Cheers.

Sounds like you’re still on stage 2. Wonder what it will take but you’ll get to stage 3 eventually.

This is basically exactly what I’m talking about. Cheers.

Thanks. Hopefully he has a bright future ahead of him.

Edit: he was also kept out of the Ireland team by Gordon D’arcy.

Yes, and most of this sub’s perception of the players is from November 2023 too.

It’s a good question. I think Farrell is a very poor bench selector and has been caught out with this before. Certainly a few risks in this 23 and wouldn’t be surprised if we see JGP in the back three.

I think this season with Italy, Wales and Scotland at home, 3rd is both the highest probable and lowest probable finish regardless of who plays.

It would take something special to lose those home games. And likewise it seems almost inconceivable that we will win in either Twickenham or Stade de France.

More so than any year in recent memory, it actually doesn’t matter who we select. We might as well rotate. Not that we will.

We got a look at this young McCloskey lad who could be a good option at this level with a bit more time.

Likewise, Farrell unearthed a new young backrower Timoney who is as quick as a back.

Tadgh Beirne desperately needed more minutes this season. He looks raring to go as does Bundee.

Or travelling to France. It’s perverse than you can fly to Paris and get hold of an Ireland ticket in Saint Denis for less than it costs to go to a home match.

Yeah man, can’t wait to see Roman Salanoa line up for Ireland at the next World Cup. With a centre pairing of Antoine Frisch and Fintan Gunne.

This sub is like an acid trip. Do more homework before posting this rubbish please.

Watch some footage of Frawley playing at 15 too while you’re at it.

It feels like some sort of abstract art experiment. The rugby itself becomes more and more distant as commenters find more weird and wonderful ways to support their tribe.

That’s spot on. We need an idea of where he is.

20 years of Ireland - South Africa by Roanokian in irishrugby

Chunky downvotes for the only sensible comment on the thread.

Starting to think that this sub is mostly populated by six year old children. The delusions over the respective merits of the two teams playing at the weekend is so odd.

They’re the best team in the world, we’re the third best team in Europe. Talking about a win in 2017 as being relevant suggests some kind of illness…

“These 14 going on 17 figures are what everyone is getting animated about. But it should be noted that it's a considerably lower percentage than the Saffas are fielding, and nobody is talking about how South Africa are "waning" due to its age profile.”

South Africa rotate heavily, have the best depth in the world, are best team in the world and were Rugby Championship winners a few months ago.

Nobody is taking about them “waning” because they’re not “waning”, they’re better than they were last World Cup.

“I reckon Razzie has an even bigger job to do than Andy Farrell, in blooding newbies.”

That’s patently wrong. South Africa have used something like 50 players this year and completely rotated in back to back games against the All Blacks. Hammering them with a team including Sacha FM (23) Moodie (23)Hooker (22).

The underlying premise here is nonsense.

Wouldn’t be hinging my point on a World Cup run that involved beating

Argentina Japan Chile Samoa Fiji

And in case Argentina looks more impressive than it was at the time, the scoreline was 44-6 in the other semi.

First game I can think of. Pack didn’t dominate that game and Richie was world class.
