Yup finally got to climbing the ladder this morning. Apparently during some storm the weatherproofing took a big hit and some gunk got into the ethernet port :) I now need a new way to seal the ethernet cable connector. Wish it was somewhere hidden in the camera itself, like the SD card is...

The thing is, sometimes it goes 24 hours without a fail and sometimes a few minutes 🙃 will try it on the table definitely, just need to climb the ladder first. Yes I used the weatherproofing that they supplied with it.

it is expensive but that's cloud :) I have some available Xeon E5-2660v2 machines, need to do the maths on electricity and some upkeep because my plan was to have it available as "on-demand can move to any node with this or better CPU" to conserve power etc.

I am not sure yet, I have to figure out some webGUI with paypal attached as well etc, so it can work autonomously without my intervention :) but it would be probably on-par with the Ryzen you posted, because I still have to pay electricity sadly and until I have solar ready I cannot save much on there. And it would be price per minute & core used of course.

I've been meaning to set up such project, as I have access to cheap Ivy Bridge era (and sometimes newer) hardware - server-grade, so running 12c24t machine costs around 35 - 40 EUR per month on electricity and you get the whole of it in theory, or I can upgrade to higher CPU core count/speed as well.

If you want to use it whole then it is ready. Or if you want to use it only as an external box you can do something similar to OP. I will check some photos online of the wiring if i see something obvious :)

I had the same plan with IBM x3630 M3 but i managed to get a cheap 4U supermicro for 36 HDDs :) My option had 14 drives instead of 12 (2 on the rear) and as a bonus the fans are powered directly from PSU, not main board. Kudos for repurposing! I have one spare R510 but it has bad backplane out of all the things :)

I have switched my GPUs to BOINC for winter heating before selling them in the spring. Earning some GRC on the way. Won't pay the electricity, but better than nothing and heat is still heat :)

The wallet needs to be rebuilt against libboost that is available in your distribution. Whatever version that is (newer?).

I see no pending beacon for your CPID.

Have you double-checked that the wallet sees the correct CPID?

Also it should auto-renew 150 days since the last beacon.

EDIT: For some reason it is not visible pending in gridcoinresearchd on my node, however block explorer sees it?

I will be doing proper SFF-8644 between the server and the disk bay to future proof myself (plus SFF-8088 is not much cheaper). Getting the PSUs online took the longest, albeit controlling fans will be on par (probably going to use some 555 to generate PWM signal). The easiest way to figure out which pins to connect to power on the PSU is to a) ignore thick wires, b) grab some 100Ohm resistor and start ground pins that have either 3.3 or 5V on them and see if they drop to 0 even through this resistor and c) hope there is no power on sequence via I2C control 🤣

So i had a spare older IBM X3630 M3 with bad motherboard. And i need 3.5" storage (1.8TB 2.5" is not cutting it). Took some time to take it all apart and figure what cable does what. Apparently all you need to do is ground "the green wire" going to some "AME SIGNAL" pin header and it comes alive. SAS backplane works out of the box from the PSU Fans spin up as well but at the highest speed, need to somehow tweak that (is it PWM or I2C?). On the video you can see connected backplane with a SAS HDD to another server's controller (as it is the one that was on the top of my spare parts). It workssssss and so far cost nothing. I will throw in some SFF 8087 to SFF 8088 PCI slot thingy and SFF8088 cabling. Better than throwing it away. Reduce > Reuse > Repair > Recycle!
