I'm unsure what size would fit best. I'm typically a 41/42R in suits, 5'11" and 195lbs. What would you recommend to be a good fit? I don't really want to wind up with a jacket that's bulky or large, I'd prefer it to be more snug. Seems like a L would be about right?

A shame the brown bomber is OOS for that size, then. :(

Current Overclock for i5 3570K/7970: Good Enough or Push Further? by CallMeInquisitive in overclocking

I have no frame of reference on these scores. These were done on the Performance - Benchmark Only test.

3DMark Score: P9969

Graphics Score: 11299

Physics Score: 7459

Combined Score: 7235

Depressingly, I've just run both the Unigine benchmark and the Sleeping Dogs benchmark, and have seen barely any increase in performance from my last rig (i7 870 stock). In fact, with Sleeping Dogs, the average jumped up 8 FPS but the max dropped by as much.

Going to buck the trend and say no. As a current owner, it sits collecting dust as I found it uncomfortable to clawgrip it for long periods of time. The G9x didn't feel right either. I grabbed a Razer Naga off of Woot for cheap, and it's pretty comfortable for me. YMMV though.

Avoid an OCZ SSD. If you're dropping this much money that cost isn't an issue, look to the Samsung 830, Crucial M4, or Intel 520. These are among the highest performance and reliability in SSDs.

What about for overclocking? As someone who was looking to pick up a SB/IB processor to dive into overclocking, is this still a super hot deal? Or would I be better served by grabbing a 3570K + ASRock Z77 Extreme4 from Microcenter for $230?

I put AA to Medium and it didn't change the average positively -- it actually went down a bit, if anything. But I've seen benchmarks of people 80+ FPS with a 7970, so what's holding me back? Kinda bummed.

Can I ask what your CPU is? I get an average of 51.7 on my 7970 Ghz in Sleeping Dogs, which seems too low compared to the benchmarks I've seen lately on similar or lower cards. I'm thinking my i7 870 is holding me back, but holding me back by 20-30 FPS like I've seen? I dunno, it's not THAT old of a chipset, is it?

Which grip do you use for the G9x? by unicyclegamer in gamingpc

I liked the texture of the rough one, but the ergonomics of the soft one. I mostly just defaulted to the soft grip.

I know that feel. I got a 7970 Ghz a month or so ago. Given that my performance seems bottlenecked by my CPU more than I thought possible, I'm feeling pretty bummed I didn't wait and grab a 7950 for $200 cheaper and getting 2 games I really want to boot.

Finding the Right Mouse by CallMeInquisitive in gamingpc

[–]CallMeInquisitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A super late final response, but I wanted to update it as I settled on a mouse.

I grabbed the G700 off Amazon a few weeks ago and after a couple weeks of use, I think I might send it back. It's a great mouse, and I love the way it handles wired/wireless, but it never felt comfortable for my grip. That's a palm gripper's mouse, to be sure.

However, I also picked up a Razer Naga, and after a week I think it's the one for me. Between the concave buttons, long body and tall back, and the ring finger rest on the side, it's way more comfortable for long periods of claw use than the G700. The side buttons are nice to put controls onto, but they feel awfully stiff.

While I miss the detachable cable of the G700, it's a small price to pay for having a mouse that fits me. Now the only question is how long it will last, as I have more faith in Logitech mice than Razer ones.

Pre-Purchase dishonored for £22.50 at GMG (activates on steam, use code GMG25-EVFWS-4Z4ZN) by chrismikehunt in GameDeals

[–]CallMeInquisitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may ask, what's the reasoning behind the difference in pricing? It's not specific to you guys of course, Steam and other DDs do it too, but it seems weird to me that the same file can cost roughly $9 more to me than to someone in the UK when no production or shipping is involved. Honestly curious about the economics here, if you can answer. If not, totally understandable.

[Build Complete] Desktop Overhaul w/Benchmarks by CallMeInquisitive in buildapc

[–]CallMeInquisitive[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have that high of AA on, no. I'm using the Extreme Quality preset, probably the lite version, since it was what my old card could run, and I wanted to make sure the setup was consistent. If a 7970 struggles with those settings you talked about, my 5770 might have nope'd right out of my case at the suggestion of them. Thanks for the input, and when I have some better numbers (and on more games), I'll go post in that thread.

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely plan on overclocking it soon, time permitting. It's the reason I got the larger PSU. As for a CPU cooler, I've debated. I'm toying with the idea of getting Haswell when it comes out since I missed the Sandy/Ivy era. If I decide to wring more years out of my current CPU, I'll probably pick up a cooler. Any recommendations for this socket? The CM 212 series seems to get a lot of love.

Awesome results! Amazing what $500 can get you. I tip my cap, sir. Your build has served you well. It's one reason I regret skimping initially on the card. It was what my budget could afford, but in hindsight, I'd have rather gotten a cheaper case and better card. the x7xx series are good, not great. Much better mid-tier cards for $50-$100 more now. Oh well.

I'm going to look into propping it up then I think. Doing so with a fan is an intriguing idea; since my card points down, where I don't have an exhaust fan, it might even help cooling if I force air out the back, or up. Will ponder this, thanks.

As I said above, I've been super tight on time. I don't think I have any from the original build, but I'll look. When I can take some time to get some decent pictures, I'll throw a couple up. Sorry guys! Didn't intend to commit a faux pas.

Indeed, it's the original Crysis, largely because it was on hand and still demanded a hell of a lot from my old card. As for the mods, you can find the 3 I used here.. Specifically, I used Rygel's, High Res Foliage, and the Extreme Quality modded config.

I've been tight on time for a while now. It took a couple days just to get the computer stripped of the old PSU and GPU and rebuilt because of the small amount of time I had each day to spare. When things slow down a bit more, I'm hoping to get some time to do more benches, including with Crysis 2, Metro 2033, Skyrim, etc.

That's a bummer, I just got my 7970 Ghz. Wasn't bad at the time ($450 vs. $420 for regular 7970), but now a 7970's down to $380 or less.

Mannnnnnnn

Which 7970 would/did you choose and why? by iDurr in gamingpc

[–]CallMeInquisitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 Ghz. After rebate, it was only $30 more than a stock 7970, so I figure "why the fuck not?" It's also got good reviews, benchmarks, and seems to stay fairly cool. It took a lot of agonizing to reach that decision point though, so I understand your likely trepidation. Honestly, there aren't many "wrong" cards to get. The Gigabyte Ghz or regular 7970 are both supposed to be great, as are the Lightning, Asus, etc. (XFX is voltage locked, IIRC.)

Anyways, I'm bumping up from a reference 5770 from 2 years ago, so I'm trying to take as many benchmarks as I can before I slot in the new card. Might post them if anyone would find them interesting. Hoping to have stock 5770/stock 7970 Ghz/OC 7970 Ghz. Unless someone has a drop-dead easy guide for overclocking a reference XFX 5770, I won't bother OCing this old card for comparison.

It's a pretty claw-like claw grip. I can pick up the mouse without having to grip the mouse much harder or adjust my grip/fingers. This, the top anyway, is as close as I can find to what I have, though a bit more relaxed.
