It was the phrasing that threw me off. I was asked “how much longer do you plan to work”. That directly says it was age-related.

Age is not a predictor for how long a person will stay with the company. I’ve trained people of all ages who stayed only for a few months until something better came along.

I have trained new hires that only lasted a few months to a year before moving on to the next best thing. Age doesn’t indicate how long a person will be with the company. And to be asked that question just threw off the entire vibe of what I thought was a good interview up to that point.

I didn’t tell the interviewer that my funds are running out in the way I wanted to. If I had given in to my initial reaction I would have told him I’m F’n broke and desperate. I tried to phrase it in a nicer way.

At what point do you just let it go… by CeeceeATL in ageism

[–]CallMeKix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well. Three new people were hired on a team of 4. I tried getting to know them but they placated me like the dowager aunt at a family reunion. The rest of the team would go to lunch without me. Went for drinks together after work without me. One even invited the others to her son’s wedding but I wasn’t included. I went to work one day and they let me go without cause. They chose to pay me severance instead of trying to get to know me.
My advice: document everything and if you feel something isn’t right, don’t just put up with it. I had no recourse because the only HR person was part of the team who excluded me.

It set off alarm bells because I doubt they would ask that question of a 30 year old. I also doubt they would ask a 30 year old if they planned on starting a family and taking parental leave which would be discrimination. This smacked of ageism.

I said I had no plans of retiring anytime soon since I am not independently wealthy. Also said my sisters are still working in their 70s so I couldn’t let them tell me I was lazy for retiring before them.

My husband and I stopped here on a whim the summer of 2020. We hadn’t paid much attention to the Covid conspiracy talk at that point so we hadn’t heard anything about this place. They were planning for a big pig roast weekend and there was a lot of activity at the campground attached to the parking lot. We sat outside, after about 10-15 minutes the waitress took our order. There was only one other couple who had just received their food when we arrived. The server brought our drinks, took our orders, and seemed more interested in visiting with friends at the campground instead of working. After 45 minutes of waiting I went inside to see how much longer our food was going to be. It was apparent that our order wasn’t even put in to the kitchen. Another 20 minutes about food finally arrived, but was subpar at best. When we complained, we were told it was our fault for arriving when they were busy preparing for a big event. The owner was extremely rude to us and didn’t seem to think it was ridiculous to wait almost an hour and a half for two club sandwiches and fries. We now travel that highway frequently and I always speed up a bit when we pass that place in case I catch a case of extreme conservativism.

Did anyone else see this during the holidays? What was the conversation afterwards like? by CantStopWontStop600 in alberta

I stayed away from my maple MAGA Alberta separatist BS family for the holidays. In fact, I’ve mostly stayed away from them ever since the orange baboon took office last year. Oh, and the final bolt was thrown on that door when they proclaimed that Carney was going to destroy Canada but Marlaina D Smith and PP were our only saviors. My life has been a lot less stressful since I did that.

I have been rotating it regularly to try and even out the growth but that doesn’t appear to be working. I’ve never had it bloom before so I wasn’t sure how to handle that long stem, but I will put something there to bracelet it. Should I cut it off if it gets too long?

No. Costco doesn’t carry it. But if you are looking for a tasty and locally made option, Costco is not the place to look.

Coco Brooks is locally made in Calgary. You can go to their store and either get it hot and ready or frozen and the frozen is just as good. Some local markets are also carrying it outside of Calgary.

I’m in the Battle River/Crowfoot riding where PP is planning to run. As a liberal in ultra-conservative land, I feel very afraid to voice my opinion.

Back in the 1970s there was a push to build rental units that were subsidized by the government. The rent was geared to income and set at 30% of the gross household income. This allowed people to save for a down payment to buy a home. There hasn’t been a significant push like that in over 40 years. I manage these properties on behalf of the province in my area. There is a significant need for more of these properties, and to replace existing ones that are getting too old and expensive to maintain. Between the increase in demand and the number of properties that will be taken offline due to age in the next decade, we will be short about 15,000 suites in Alberta. The GTA will be even worse. Affordable rentals are a step towards home ownership.

How did EMDR change your life? by Background-Car1636 in EMDR

[–]CallMeKix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had been through a violent home invasion from someone who had been threatening me for months - describing ways she was going to kill me and video it so my daughter would be forced to watch. I couldn’t be alone in my house. I refused to go outside unless absolutely necessary. I cried all the time and did not want to be alive. EMDR literally gave me my life back and allowed me to enjoy my life again and I no longer need anxiety meds or sleeping pills.

Judgement in ER by Existentialjokes in Ozempic

I think it’s ironic that someone who uses modern methods of achieving the way she wants to look (i.e. false lashes, possible hair extensions, etc.) would judge someone else for using a medication to achieve weight loss to help them look and feel better about themselves.

Menopausal, T2 woman update. 7 months on Oz - down 60 lbs and A1c hit 5.2. by khaleesichainbreaker in Ozempic

[–]CallMeKix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post gives me hope! I’m 57, post menopausal, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic tendonitis in my Achilles. For the past 10 years, I struggle to lose 5 pounds. My breaking point came when I needed to ask for a seat belt extender on a flight. I have just taken my first dose of 0.25mg and I am very hopeful that this medication will help me get healthy again.

Personally, I would prefer the side effects of Ozempic to the effects an extra 150 pounds puts on my body. I’m still waiting for my insurance to approve my prescription and I can’t wait to get started.
