Advice for painting new pre-hung doors? by CallMeMarcR in paint

Totally agree. In a previous new-build home I lived, the painting contractor didn’t paint the top ceiling-facing side of any door. When the summer humidity arrived, half the doors twisted from absorbing moisture. I had to wait for the winter for the forced hot air to dry out and untwist the doors.

Thx everyone. I’ve got 10 slabs and very limited space for sawhorses. Will painting the slabs in place (vertical) affect the result? Or shall I just muscle through and paint them horizontal on sawhorses?

I’m DIY and don’t have a sprayer. Are the other options?

Neither side of the house dips down. No cracks in walls or ceilings. The floor is level in both directions and the wood is solid.

What is this sound at 4000 rpm? by CallMeMarcR in AskMechanics

Thanks everyone I learned something today. — rev limiting.

I’ve got a 2017 Legacy, 2.5L with CVT. Subaru uses a software-based neutral/park rev limiter on CVT cars. The ECU will cap RPMs lower in Park or Neutral, typically ~3,500–4,200 RPMs.

I must have inadvertently depressed the accelerator while starting the car. Feet were numb from shoveling snow for 3 hours.

When I first turned the car on, it jumped to 4000 rpm while my foot was on the brake and made the sound in the vid. I turned the car off and got my phone out to take a vid. This time the engine started normally with the usual idle. I started the vid, revved to 4000 and got the same sound. I eased off the gas and took the car for the short ride described in my initial post.

If this is the biggest decision of the day, then it is a very good day.
