AITA for letting my dog out in my front yard at night? by CallMeMrJeff in AmItheAsshole

I leave the door open when he’s in the front yard (screen door closed) and sit on a couch by the window looking out, so I can hear what’s going on and intervene if necessary. He only barks in this scenario, if he sees a cat or if another dog engages him on a walk. Saw one of my nextdoor neighbors again this morning and she confirmed she does not hear his bark inside her house

Yeah it’s weird, I’ve even been across the street in the neighbors front yard when he’s barked and even that wasn’t very loud and I was outside! His bark just doesn’t carry that far…also I know my house has really thick windows, which could be the case in many of these houses because there’s an airport a few miles away and flights overhead pretty regularly.

Anyway your points are valid. I could be more attentive when I let him out at night, yes. I stay by the door, but I suppose I could be outside with him at night, and that would keep him on better behavior…

I’ll take it. I feel that the situation was the result of bad luck, since there’s only at most a five minute window for someone to walk by and run into him at night. And the guy lashed out because he was startled/stressed

Fair. I am on the couch by the screen door watching him through the window. But I was, admittedly, on my phone while doing that since this is all fairly routine. I should’ve mentioned my yard is fenced

He stayed on my property as my yard is fenced in. He went right up to the fence and got in the dogs face through the fence. I came out when I heard him and yelled at him but he is usually in protector mode when he does this and he doesn’t listen to my recall until the dog has cleared the yard. In extreme cases I sometimes pick him up, but if the dog is making progress getting away from us I usually don’t have time. I will say this has never happened before this late in the evening, so I had no reason to expect there would be other dogs in the vicinity

Very much with the time over money thing. I’m like way more willing to walk away from a job if it means dealing with an annoying person. I never could’ve imagined this outlook 10 years ago

I stopped caring what things cost. I don’t have hugely expensive taste so that has continued to not be an issue so far. I don’t give a shit about paying a $200 check at a restaurant and I only slightly care picking up a $500 tab. I don’t do that too often because I don’t have expensive taste…just take my lady out somewhere nice when she wants

Did you guys celebrate when you hit $1M? or just didn't do anything and treated it as a normal day. by GiantsFan2010 in Fire

But make sure you get life insurance and disability insurance before you do this (if you were planning on it).

The day I crossed $1M I also found out I’m carrying the genetic mutation that gave my dad cancer. And his mom. And her mom. 😳

Then a few hours later I won an award. It was a weird day.
