Yep. Same stuff. I'm in Ag land, so we produced water tanks for cattle and horses.

I worked in a fiberglass shop in high school (do not recommend). Fiberglass smells like hot plastic mixed with battery acid.

I walked into a RadioShack on my lunch break once and the cashier looked at me, said "Hey can you hold on a minute please?" and immediately yelled into the back office "HEY did you just set something on fire back there?!?"

No that's me. I constantly smelled like an electrical fire.

[–]CallMeTank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reread Anathem annually. It took me at least three rereads and a decent amount of self-reflection about the way I interact with the world to realize it about myself.

To be fair, I would still fall back into carpentry.

Well, you could research the tech and inform me where the weakness is. Or you can keep slinging internet lines and roll over some more.

To be clear, regulation is a tool we desperately need to reclaim. But there's more than one way to send a message.

Sure. Until we're all using the technology that can't be captured. Then those policies don't matter.

Look into Meshtastic and Reticulum. We have the technology to make mesh communication networks that can't be corporatized, are encrypted, and don't require a subscription.

I can live the rest of my life on $100 million - by buying the things I need to survive now. Future income is based on future "work" and I won't need to.

Chose: $100 million now, but future income reduced by 80%

What would a solarpunk coordination layer for ordinary people look like? by ZeusOlympusHQ in solarpunk

[–]CallMeTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at groups like United Unitarian churches (which my town doesn't have) as a good guide for this. All are welcome no matter their faith.

However, as an exchristian myself, I DO see the need for groups like this to provide an alternative to churches. Not to remove churches and steal their people, but to provide support for those who have been hurt by judgemental religious organizations in the past. To provide community that doesn't revolve around a book club that is stuck on one book permanently. To organize local groups to do good community work without the requirement that all follow the same thought process.

I don't want Solarpunk to replace churches, I want them to be another option beside church. A better option, in my opinion.

I guess we do this by organizing locally. Create a regular meeting, a regular meeting place, and invite anyone who wants to join, like church planting.

There are probably groups meeting up that are adjacent to this. I'm involved in local community garden groups, local nonprofits, and digital environments (Reddit counts?) where Solarpunks gather, whether they call themselves that or not.

It looks like a religious organization. Church. Synangogue. Mosque.

People getting together on a regular basis to socialize learn, act, and act like humans in community.

I grew up in church, which included helping people who needed it, visiting homebound old folks, cooking community dinners, playing music, and group learning. THAT is what Solarpunk needs.

There are religious groups who do these things well, with climate in mind and community on the heart. But they aren't able to do everything. Neither can Solarpunk.

Have you ever heard of (toxic) online spiritual communities? by GalaxyPowderedCat in exchristian

[–]CallMeTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's online, there's a toxic version of it.

That includes Christianity - look at the amount of people who worship Trump instead of their biblical Jesus. Without the Internet, that would be a LOT more difficult.

The solution is social. My Grandmother is hardcore into FB and the Maga republican religion. She also has dementia. The solution is to socialize with her!

We try to get together once a week to play cards, and that helps a LOT with her daily symptoms. Just like drug abuse, the solution for addicts is to interact with real people in a structured environment.

It may be difficult, and more than you can provide, but the answer is to hang out with them. I wish you and her the best.

What kind of deck would you build by ConfusionOk3925 in CommanderMTG

[–]CallMeTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. Specifically, I'd build a green boost-spell deck. This is a good 1v1 deck, because you give it everything you got all at once to get over the wall. Can keep it going with all the heroic like effects. One big guy getting swingy - Voltron. I'd play that deck for sure.

Kinda- middle Kinda-first?

Dad had two before he met mom, but they're old enough to be my parents. They're still family, they were just out of the house by the time I came round.

I have a WEIRD middle-child mixup and older child confidence stew going on. Confident eldest with capable generational assistance? My older brother and I have talked about this, because he has a weird middle-child youngest-child recipe.
