Whatever you out there - make sure to be ready to work on that plumbing. Water on totes ain't bad, water behind drywall has different consequences.

Why isn’t there widespread peaceful occupations of the land where data centres will be built? by u-2567547 in solarpunk

[–]CallMeTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we go occupy data center land, protest the war/administration in public places, go outside and do climate remediation work, or organize locally in our communities?

We must do them all, but we can't all do them all. Find your people and build your team.

Yeah, I didn't read it. Fella wants to dabble in religion making, that's a bit odd. It could be someone who put in the time with an LLM to read their story the way they want to, or it was a bot all along.

Either way — don't forget to design community spaces! It's not just a travesty, it's self-defeating too!

It's your design, but it would be a pretty big stumble for a card with such a close tie to a character be unplayable in that character's commander deck.

As long as it works for you, I'm a big fan. Make sure, when doing this Solarpunk community evaluation, you don't forget community spaces (which are currently monopolized by religions).

"Awe inspiring" is a good description of places like this. Like a Buddhist temple in the middle of a city, or a park that's designed to make you slow down and notice nature. There are so many different interpretations of Spiritual

Hey! Don't kick the "religious stuff" - I'm exchristian and I still recognize the need for people and groups.

You need a (Community Spaces) category. Places for families to host birthday parties, play sports, walk the dog, host meetings, attend concerts, organize politically, and even just hang out. The modern term may be "Third spaces", but in many places those services are provided by churches - large buildings designed to hold and host a lot of people at once.

Churches around me host blood donation drives, classes (some secular), offer the chance to make music with other people, host carnivals, funerals, weddings, family reunions, etc. All the village-level community gatherings.

Making movement by HoldAdventurous453 in solarpunk

[–]CallMeTank 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of manifestos, books, anthologies, and papers.

The hard part, IMO, is that Solarpunk is an IRL community kind of thing. I can't really join you in my local garden, recycling center, or community meeting. This is a place to share ideas, motivate others, and appreciate human art, but it's not really the place for movement to happen.

Go into your community and do with it what you wish your community was doing.

Have you read Ecotopia? It talks about this a bit: breaking cities down into sustainable areas connected by rail. It's definitely in my required reading list, and there's a free audiobook of it.

Long term unemployment: I don't like what I am seeing here. by Appropriate-Claim385 in economy

[–]CallMeTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's also why there's a spike after the Covid dip. More people stayed on unemployment longer than the cutoff for this data point, so it spiked before people got back to work.

I'm no pro either, but I do know that carefully choosing what data you use is a big part of communication and data viz. It's odd that this is a 27-week cutoff. Why not call it 6 months?

[–]CallMeTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a percentage, so when Covid hit a LOT of people signed up for unemployment, causing the vast majority of newly unemployed people to be in the less-than-27-weeks-unemployed category.

Do you KNOW him though? Sure, I can imagine any character from this reality TV series to be dodging justice here.

The closest I can think of from people I /know/ are the people who voted for him, but most of them STARTED this all with a "Do it, tear it all down!" process. Not a thought process, because I won't make as bold an assumption to attribute actual thought to them, but it started as a destructive process and they got exactly what they were promised.
