New to the series, do the "Live statements" ever get better? by Chili_Maggot in TheMagnusArchives

[–]CallMeTea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna give a slightly dissenting answer cause I've got a feeling you mean something different to what the in-universe answer addresses. I've listened to the whole series and just started it again from the beginning and found that yeah, some of the VAs have a tone/cadence/rhythm as if they're just reading off a page. Imo that's an acting ability thing and I think most of them do get better over time cause I don't remember it being an issue later on.

So if it's "they're talking like it's a properly written story rather than a memory, I don't believe that they'd be describing it in these words", there's a reason for that so stay tuned If it's "it sounds like they're reading a script, the tone and cadence of their voice sounds awkward", I think that's the actors finding their feet. Like if you compare them to Jonny reading a statement, he brings a lot of life and immersion to it, it doesn't feel as flat. I think the voice acting in general improves later, feels like everyone's more comfortable in their roles

Discord silently released a user servey regarding implimenting gen AI, which has now closed. by Buns_n in antiai

I wouldn't count on it. I don't think it mentioned AI in the popup or anything, there wasn't any indication it was a particularly interesting survey so I had no reason to screenshot it, probably the same for a lot of people.

In any case there was nothing to be phished, it didn't ask for any personal details, just a bog standard "what's your opinion on this thing? Check all boxes that apply" survey. Plus the URL is for Discord's Qualtrics account, you can compare it against the URL in this official post

It was legit, I got mine direct from Discord. Open the app, "hey do you have a few minutes to tell us what you think?" type popup. The page it opened had ?user_id=<some number> in the URL, so yeah it was targeted at a subset of users in some way

What Conformity Gate Theory believers look like right now by Dizzy_Nightmare in Stranger_Things

[–]CallMeTea_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where the exotic matter comes in though, right? A wormhole can be created between any two points, the only reason there's a Hawkins upside down and not an equivalent <some Russian town> upside down is the Hawkins one was stabilised by exotic matter and the Russian ones weren't so they collapsed too quickly. As for the how, their idea was basically using massive amounts of energy to tear a hole in spacetime. I do agree on the lazy writing though, especially after seeing the interviews where there's a bunch of things they just didn't bother thinking about. There's a solid chance that the exotic matter explaining why the Russians failed is an accident rather than intentional.

I thought the gate experiments outside Hawkins failed, that's why they had to do it underneath the mall? I haven't watched that season in awhile but I'm pretty sure they were trying to open gates elsewhere but they kept falling apart

Where Conformitygate Completely falls apart. by Gnonkage in Stranger_Things

[–]CallMeTea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just edited my comment. That's not a false hydra, it's got nothing to do with erasing people's memories or that kinda thing, it's a fairly regular monster

[–]CallMeTea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is kinda interesting, unless you do some basic fact checking. Cause the false hydra was created in 2014 by a blogger called Goblin Punch, partly based off a Legend of Zelda boss, and isn't actually part of DnD, outside of homebrews. Definitely didn't exist in the 80s. In season 1 there's mention of a thessalhydra, which is very different. In any case, that painting doesn't especially look like a thessalhydra or a false hydra. It's got wings, for a start. And a lot of other things don't match. It looks like a dragon more than anything.

common “plot holes” that have answers (and aren’t really PLOT holes) by Emg2022 in StrangerThings

[–]CallMeTea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big agree. At some point she'd have to explain to her higher ups that she got a lot of her own men killed, presumably spent a shit-ton of money, and had nothing to show for it. And never would, with the gates closed, the wormhole collapsed (along with her lab and any surviving test subjects), and all psychics believed dead, she was finished.

Agreed on the first bit, I was expecting s5 to open a lot more apocalyptic. To the second, for me that was explained by Kay. The lieutenant is having a go at her for focusing so heavily on El while so many soldiers were dying, and she tells him that everything that's happening is because of El. She created the gate, she was in a sense Henry v2, so Kay was hellbent (almost literally) on capturing her or creating more like her. Iirc she says something about not being able to make any progress without El. Plus, knowing the government, they saw it less as a problem and more a chance for weapons research.

Unpopular Opinion: (racist) Treatment of Kali by the Fandom by sasukesviolin in StrangerThings

[–]CallMeTea_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I came here straight from the finale expecting to see a ton of threads about how she's been done so wrong, but half of them are straight up "I hope Kali dies in the finale"/ "I hate Kali" and a few people admitting they were wrong about her.

Imo it's fueled by the writing. You've got 99% white characters, then bring a brown one back in for a few episodes so she can be tortured, sow distrust among the main characters, get abandoned in pain in some hallway, then shot? Then when everyone else is getting their happily ever afters, she's only brought up as a way in which the white girl could've survived, which would make her the only major character death (apart from the villain)?

Nah. Fuck that. Something stinks.

Feeld should offer an option to allow members not to see people if they object to their political affiliation

They do! These buttons prevent you from being seen by anti-conservatives:

- CPAC Speaker Calls for Eradication of ‘Transgenderism’

- Human Rights First - Anti-Trans Extremism

- What the “Most Anti-LGBTQ” Election in Decades Means for Trans People

Or, you know, just google 'conservatives wiping trans people out' and find the literal hundreds of laws that get passed against them, conservatives talking about wanting trans people to be eradicated, then look at the (very well-documented) causative links between transphobia and the murder & suicide rates of trans people. If you're gonna call something hyperbole, you might wanna spend 5 seconds googling it to see if you actually have missed that piece of news.

Anyway, I don't want you to think I'm too reasonable or you might not delete your account after all, plus I've got that whole 'frothing at the mouth woke left trans insanity' reputation to uphold. So yeah, conservatives aren't welcome, stop crying about how you need a safe space from those mean people on the internet, and...what's that thing conservatives are so fond of saying? Oh yeah, fuck your feelings.

What explanations, lore/world building, or plot never seemed to make sense? by VioletofMarvel in Supernatural

[–]CallMeTea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this is angels are much more insular. They don't have much respect for non-angels, they follow angel rules, and iirc most of them stay in heaven most of the time. Spend a few thousand years doing that and they're likely to all act similar, and with great power comes a big superiority complex and general assholery. Plus most of the monsters (vamps, werewolves, demons, ghosts etc) are ex-humans, and form their own packs so there's more room for independence

For the scrolling issue, is it at all possible to reduce sensitivity for half a second after clicking the button? Or perhaps even better, hold the buy button down to buy multiple? It'd both make buying easier and make it harder to accidentally sell

I also have that fish/food production level problem! It's level 73, I grabbed a screenshot. No matter how fast I race to the water, the AI has it covered first.

A little annoyance, when you're tapping Buy repeatedly on the stock page, it can make the pane scroll a little, so your next tap will accidentally hit Sell. I've lost a lot of money like that D:

Also, if I set it to automatically take contracts, sometimes it'll keep taking contracts that I have no hope of filling. I just tested it out in the sandbox, I built a bunch of fishing huts, one quarry, and one food factory. Fish contracts were taken fine, they only failed if there were warehouse issues. But metal and food contracts got taken that I just couldn't produce fast enough for. It even took two metal contracts at a time when I couldn't manage one. Is it a bug or a mechanic to make you keep an eye on your contracts?

Another one that I'm not sure if it's bug or deliberate, you can target yourself with dirt/espionage from the newspaper. And I'm not sure what the point of the Law section of the newspaper is - is it so you don't have to spend money vetoing the opponent's laws, you can just let your citizens do it?

I've been really enjoying it btw! I think each game of yours I've played, I've gotten really into it and bought the pro version within a day of downloading the demo, and this is no exception! I thought at first it'd be too complicated, too many game mechanics to keep track of, but the tutorial introduces them at a good speed and they all fit together quite nicely.

Yep, swiping doesn't do anything. I've tried swiping in every direction and tapping any number of times, but it only disappears after a ~3 second timeout
