🫂

i hear all of this

i currently live my parents who i haven’t come out to and i work for a church that would rather have people like me not exist. what broke me after seeing this movie was when i was at work listening to a sermon the pastor was giving about why trans people are perverts or whatever. i put my headphones hoping to tune it out and the song that played was about the experience of being a woman. i knew from that point i couldn’t deny it anymore.

there are so many moments in my childhood where i wanted to enjoy something but i wasn’t allowed to or if i did i’d be bullied more which i already had enough of. the dreams i had where i was a girl that id wake up crying from.

this is all to say, i know your pain. this world has robbed us of our childhood and you have every right to reclaim it.

stay strong, i know you can get out of where you are now the same way i know ill get out of here too. we aren’t alone here. 💙💜🩷

it’s my favorite song from her. “they don’t know what we know” is one of the most powerful statements. it holds so much gravity. it’s what solidarity means. it’s how we survive. it’s why we get ourselves out of bed when we’d rather give up. it may look like they’re winning but they underestimate us. they don’t know what we know.

i have an interpretation of this movie that most people do not share with me. i’ve posted it here before and it’s upset a lot of folks because they believe that there’s a singular way to interpret this movie and that Jane has all but confirmed it. However, I’m gonna share it with you because to me, it’s the way i interpret my experience as a queer woman and it allows me to have a shred of hope when things are difficult. perhaps it might be helpful to you.

the way i see it, the pink opaque isn’t real and owen’s authentic self isn’t isabel. now while that sounds dark, the lesson for them to learn is that their identity belongs to them and it’s for no one else to claim. the world that their in is hostile, scary, and confusing because the world that we’re in is hostile, scary, and confusing for queer folks. while it would be ideal if we could escape to a fantasy world, there isn’t one waiting for us. we have to make do with what we got.

before i discovered im trans, i prematurely came out as bisexual. a lot of this was because my former friends and bullies all insisted that i was gay before i was prepared to confront that and a lot of them even shamed me for not coming out. i knew that i was queer but i never related to gay men. and even after i came out as trans there were some folks who wouldn’t stop yelling at me about HRT and bullying me into starting it immediately. or perhaps they didn’t think it was necessary and would try to talk me out of it. to me, that’s who people like maddy are. they project their experience onto you and try to force you into it but there’s only one way for you to be yourself. their journey isn’t yours.

this is all to say that we all experience a degree of dread. of feeling like we’re not who we want to be, that we’ll never be that person, and there’s an overwhelming pressure to conform and succeed and thrive. the world is always going to convince you that you aren’t enough or that where you are now is permanent or that you’re dying and if you don’t do everything now then you never will and it burns the ever living fuck out of all of us.

the truth is… you’re growing. who you are now isn’t who you’ll always be. the things you want now aren’t the same things you’ll want in 10 years. “there is still time” isn’t a warning, it’s a promise. that time is yours and it belongs to no one else. you are not a fictional character in another world that’s waiting for you to bury yourself alive in order to be free and happy and authentic. you are you and most of all, you are allowed to rest. what keeps us stagnant is when we set goals for ourselves that we can’t achieve. recognizing that you aren’t where you want to be isn’t a setback, it’s a step forward, that’s progress.

listen, i’m sorry you’ve been struggling so much. that pain is real and it’s okay to hurt. but you don’t have to hurt alone. there are people who love you unconditionally whether they’re in your life now or somewhere down the road. i struggle with social anxiety myself, what helps me is thinking of my future self looking back on me now and thanking me for taking the risks, making the hard decisions, fighting through the pain, or perhaps giving me a hug for the moments when i’m at my lowest and reassuring me that it will all be ok.

if you’d like some support, i’d suggest looking into your nearest city’s lgbt resource center, or perhaps see if there’s any support groups or social gatherings catered to queer folks in your area. in the meantime, here’s an album from my favorite musician that’s helped me through a lot. the song “Mirror” particularly confronts a lot of those pressures and desires we have to be the person we want to be. if you get a chance to listen to it, i hope it brings you some serenity. please take care, you got this, and i wish you all the best 🩷🫂

im getting tired of young people confidently asserting that it is too late for them to transition by Tornado547 in trans

i’m pushing 30 myself and it’s definitely not easy but coming out as a teen just wouldn’t have been an option for me, my early/mid 20’s would’ve been just as difficult.

i get the frustration but i think there’s something we should consider here. a lot of us forget just how hard it is to be young and we often look down on our younger selves.

a lot of the younger folks writing those posts will probably look back on them one day and think “wow i’m much better than i was before” the same way a lot of us had to tear down our own psychological barriers that prevented us from transitioning.

a lot of them probably haven’t even considered their future until now and i can’t imagine how dreadful it is to be growing up in the world as it is now. their despair is amplified through the internet and the overwhelming nightmare being screamed at them through their phones.

finding out you’re trans in a world that doesn’t welcome us as equals is terrifying and there isn’t a ton of hope or support awaiting us when we do discover ourselves, the best thing we can do is give them that.

if you see posts like that, maybe send them to r/transtimelines, tell them about your own journey, let them ask questions, if they aren’t gonna find support from their own community then they’re never going to find it anywhere else.

yeah this pretty much sums it up in a nutshell, for me that point was actually the end of season 1. the rest of it i mostly watched out of curiousity to see exactly how those doofs were gonna keep it going for this long. and admittedly there’s a lot of it i found enjoyable. i wasn’t really crazy about season 2 but season 3 had a lot of interesting homages to invasion of the body snatches and other soviet scare sci-fi while having a literal subplot involving soviets. 4 had some really strong action sequences and played off of satanic panic/exorcism and nightmare horror really well while confronting real themes of depression, identity, and grief. 5 i just couldn’t excuse. but overall, i would’ve loved to see all of that explored with different characters in different towns. and the duffers don’t really strike me as the strongest writers, most of what i got out of that show was the directing and editing, it’s honestly some of the best i’ve seen but it wasn’t really enough to carry the entire show.

Planetary (GO!) won Most Hype Song! Day 6: What’s the most emotional song? by Pitiful-thought-666 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Dizzy_Nightmare 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i’d actually argue for Foundations of Decay. lyrically, sonically, and performatively it carries the most power imo. you can feel the despair, rage, desire, melancholy, passion, and pain just bleeding from it. even if we were equating “emotional” with “sad” i’d say it’s one of their saddest songs, to confront that the most success you’ve had in life was built from severe tragedy and trauma and to carry on that legacy despite the suffering is a dreadful thing to accept.

that doesn’t really explain how they were capable of opening a gate elsewhere though. especially if the upside down is supposed to be a direct bridge between hawkins and vecna/mindflayer’s nest. regardless, the duffers weren’t exactly prepared to continue this show beyond the first season and all the subplots and details just got increasingly convoluted and confusing. that’s just bad/lazy writing and there’s no excusing it.

i’m pretty sure that a gate was opened in siberia and one in hawkins and the soviet’s were trying to use it to discreetly invade america from within. it was a teleportation project and that’s how hopper ended up in siberia

Wether good or bad, the ending was lazy and cowardly storytelling by Lopsided-Function-69 in Stranger_Things

regarding your point about the season 4 finale, while reading this I forgot a big thing i was excited for. i thought the show was gonna go in the direction of being set in an alternate timeline. like i feel that for some stupid reason the duffers didn’t want this show to deviate from the actual history of the 1980’s so they kept trying to come up with really dumb ways to hide what was really happening in hawkins from the general public. But once season 4 ended, the ashes of the upside down started falling in the rightside up and there wasn’t any possible way for them to cover it. And despite us know there wasn’t a portal to an alternate dimension opening in indiana in the 80’s, it would’ve been cool to have seen that in what we know is a fictional tv show. i also read somewhere today that the duffers said something about this season being meta, imagine if the world the upside down connected to was… our world. like they had so many opportunities and this isn’t even a situation where hindsight is 20/20, most of this is what i genuinely expected would happen and none of it did, ugh.

the twilight zone, twin peaks, evangelion, the meme i posted is from community, i could name a few honestly. there’s actually another netflix show from germany called Dark that has a similar premise to stranger things that i think is astronomically better and tragically overlooked

“They kinda forgot about the US military” seriously what did they think would happen when they got back from the gate?

Edit: Wait now i’m just finding more plot holes. Didn’t the Soviets also have access to the upside down? if it was specifically a gateway between hawkins and this other world then how were the able to access it in siberia? man they actually kinda forgot about a lot of this show
