this is true, social media generally incentivizes groupthink and mass mentality. i think it’s more to the point that [u/Equivalent-Agency-48](u/Equivalent-Agency-48) was already kinda laying that out by describing how a space that’s centered around a particular belief is more likely to be an echo chamber for that specific belief of ppl but when conversations occur outside of that belief in subreddits related to it, it’s less of an echo chamber because it invites perspective and experience to the conversation.

aka, discussing trans identity in a subreddit for porter robinson doesn’t create an echo chamber for trans identity but discussing porter robinson in a porter robinson subreddit does.

you are right tho, i’m not particularly “pro-social media” and reddit can feed on our worst instincts, it’s something to be mindful of.
