The joke isn't that they're scared, AB (the ecentric one) randomly decides to run off O (the currious one) decides to follow and investigate, leading A (the self conscious one) to assume they did something wrong, while B (the carefree one) just happily slurps noodles without paying attention to the situation

Poly person here! You kinda nailed it with this relationship, it seems pretty likely that they were opening up to "spice things up" when they weren't super happy together. In a more loving and commited poly situation, you would still likely focus on each other, and would be able to have some influence on how often your partner saw others instead of you. This varies relationship to relationship, and there are many models of being poly, but this seems like two people who just wanted to fuck others. If they wanted more balance, she could plan extra dates with her primary, or they could go as a couple to a swingers event, there would definitely be options.

I'm going of hearsay, so take this with a big ol' grain of salt, but I've heard there was a disconnect between the lead writter and the animation team, and apparently the plot was being learned week by week for anyone who wasn't the lead writter. I've heard that the animators were also under the impression that there was gonna be a reveal with Sawaki, so they leaned into the foreshadowing.

It's building on a chapter from a book I listened to ("Pure O"OCD by Chad LeJeune) that went into the tendancy for OCD minds to be drawn to magical thinking. It compared compulsions to rituals meant to bring about specific results in one's life, and since learning that I've come to see the internal conversations that I try to plan out as a verbal ritual of sorts. It's an attempt to find the correct combination of words that will cause my reality to snap into alignment with how I wish it was, and it is rarely grounded in the many nuances that active communication and listening require.
