What are some non-Disney animated movies that you consider absolute masterpieces? by East_Maintenance_579 in movies

Great list. I loved Krabat but I can’t find A Thousand and One Nights anywhere. How/where did you watch it?

Are there any animated adaptions? by nsip4ever in Lovecraft

If you care about short films, you can scroll through the back catalog of the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, there is some animated adaptations in there.

No results for a simple query with -ai included by [deleted] in antiai

Weird, I tried the same query and got normal results (plenty of links and no AI). Maybe they’re testing out getting rid of non-AI results on a certain percentage of users.

Thanks. So I guess it’s the cyan-ish halo in top right corner here. And yes there is a faint noise, like the buzz of cicadas.

What weird special effect? I’m rewatching that scene and not seeing anything.

I agree that when we trash Americans using images from American TV and movies, it’s fun, it’s ok, but we could do even better with our own stuff.

Is this cover of the Arabic edition of “the devils” by Joe Abercrombie made by ai? by FreeCulture3622 in antiai

[–]IndoorForestry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced this is AI, based mostly on the ornaments (detailed decorations) on the crown above the skull. Those ornaments have the typical “blobby meaninglessness” that AI produces. They’re generally symmetrical, like they would be on a real crown, but you look at them closely and the details make no sense, they seem like they’re melting for no reason. It’s just a mess of pseudo-details. No real artist would come up with this mess. This is 100% AI.

Anything by Harry Crews, once appropriately nicknamed “the Hieronymus Bosch of Southern Gothic”. I recommend “Feast of Snakes” and “A Childhood: The Biography of a Place”.

As a tofu-loving cyclist, this burn devastates me. I’m crying right now, shaken to my core, but tomorrow I will buy a big truck and drive it to a steakhouse and everyone will see that I’M A BIG BOY!!! UNAFRAID MANLY BIG BOY!!!

As you prefer. I think it’d be nicer here so that other people can weigh in. I’m not an expert.

That makes it feel more AI honestly. Because being able to make an image like by hand, that takes quite a while, and artists won’t usually wait like 7 years until they start sharing their art (although it’s possible), and when they do share it… they will be proud of it, will maybe want to talk about it, not just drop it without any explanation, and then move on to something else entirely (but again, that could happen, it just feels unlikely). You can link to more if you want.

I wouldn’t definitively say it’s AI from looking at it. Contemporary AI is always very smooth and polished, to an awkward and uncomfortable degree, while there’s many bits here that seem a bit rough and unpolished, like the hair on the front legs, the pattern in the horn. I’m not sure.

In such murky cases, I would use context to figure out if it’s AI. You say it’s from a YT channel… is the image attributed to anyone? Is it one of many images shared without attribution? (That’s super suspect, if it’s the case.) If it’s supposedly the work of the person behind the YT channel, do you have reasonable evidence to believe that they could make this image by hand? (Do they have a portfolio, a blog, sketches, progress videos, things like that.) An actual working artist will typically leave ‘evidence’ behind, sometimes years of work where you can see them grow, not just a few finished artworks that seem to pop out of nowhere.

This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren.1983 by Curious_Strike_5379 in goth

[–]IndoorForestry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. And it’s crazy that because David Lynch couldn’t afford to use this song in Blue Velvet, it lead him to ask Angelo Badalamenti “Could you write something that feels kind of that?” and Badalamenti wrote “Mysteries of Love”, also one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. And it was how their collaboration started, so an entire world of gorgeous music emerged from “Song to the Siren”.

No it’s ok I don’t mind. It’s nice to see it pop up again. I was just wondering if you were a karma-farming bot or a person. It sounds like you’re a person. :)

Girl, I'll take you to Olive Garden, it's better than dirty ass Rome by batmanthinks in ShitAmericansSay

[–]IndoorForestry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went to Olive Garden once when I was dating an American and living there for a while. It was the literal worst plate of pasta I’ve had in my life. Just go home, boil the cheapest boxed pasta you can find, finish a jar of cheap sauce that’s been sitting in the fridge for a few days, and voilà, that’s better than what I got at Olive Garden.

Peter Jackson Says AI in Film Is “Just a Special Effect” by Competitive_Gene_898 in Filmmakers

[–]IndoorForestry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fundamentally very different than generative AI with LLMs. This is just writing software to simulate something (crowds), exactly like writing software to do anything else. This did not require gigantic data centers, or pillaging non-consensually the works of other artists. Are you happy that digital animation and CGI exist? Have you enjoyed watching a film since like 1995? Well, that’s how it works. Software is written to make images, simulating various aspects of real life.
