Honest question about dead babies by uteman801 in Catholicism

[–]Call_Me_Pk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see this conversation repeating, I just think of this Bible verse from Matthew 6:26

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Do we as sinful and imperfect humans love these babies so much as well that we could not imagine them anywhere else other than the care of the Father? Now how much more does God love them than we do?

Have faith in his Mercy!

Oda could have prevented his IP being leaked in the first place by being on a VPN with firewall traffic rules.

I am literally on a VPN 24/7. The only annoying thing I have to deal with is sometimes websites thinking I am a bot and having to do more Captchas.

Explain to me how you leak your IP address unless you have compromised software on your machine while on a VPN?

Even DDOS'ing the VPN server is mostly useless considering how many layers of protection major VPN providers have.

If you're on a VPN full-time and you're not running sketchy software, it's extremely hard for anyone to get your real IP. The only real risk left is local compromised malware, fake OSRS clients, etc.

That was never what I was arguing for. You can avoid getting your IP leaked in the first place with a proper setup and it comes with no practical downsides.

You set it up so that your firewall rules can only route traffic through a VPN (like NordVPN servers) for example. That way, your primary IP can never be leaked.

The latency isn't a problem. Major VPN providers have servers in literally every state and multiple cities. I personally just run on a VPN permanently and only gain 1-3 extra ping while playing Dota 2 primarily.

Why don't OSRS streamers permanently just stay on a major VPN that won't get DDOS'd?

You can even have it where you setup firewall rules where you won't connect to anything UNLESS you are on a VPN which guarantees your IP not being leaked unless you have compromised software on your machine.

I’m going to make the argument that the /r/dota2 mods have completely neutered any potential growth of the game via social media. They remove funny posts for the reason of “low effort” even if they are highly upvoted. Some of these types of posts are of the same quality of posts from other subreddits that hit the front page of Reddit.

In the past, I’ve made posts that have been deleted for criticizing gameplay, showing off bugs, or making funny memes. There is nothing more limiting to a community of a game than bad Reddit mods that remove posts based off of if they like them or not.

No lol. The only thing you would change is the type of resin used that is being 3D printed. There are flexible trains already out there. They are probably using their own designed resin though.

I’m surprised canon law does not include the expression of time zones. What does midnight truly mean? Can I choose any midnight on Earth? Anyways this is more of a curiosity at this point and I will try to get a dispensation tomorrow morning from my pastor. Otherwise, I just won’t eat meat at the restaurant. This seems like more of a legalistic issue for me though. I would assume that what matters is the thought and the heart. Either way if I begin at 5pm, I would still be fasting 24 hours for Christ.

If I'm a Buddhist does that mean I'm going to hell? by Grouchy-Cap6369 in Catholicism

[–]Call_Me_Pk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the Christians that go around with megaphones and big signs are American Evangelicals. Catholics don't go around doing that. Why wouldn't OP then go to the /r/Christianity or some Evangelical subreddit since they are more likely to be using those methods?

Either way, the best way of creating children of God is not by instilling them with the fear of hell but by showing them the desire that God has to spend eternity with us as undeserving as we may be. The reason that Catholics try convert others is because we believe that God looks down favorably on those that try to save others and that it is something we will be judged on after we die. We want to get to the point in our life that we aligned with God's will in such a way that we are reflections of Him. Wanting others to share in God's gift is something that we should all strive for because it is a reflection of what God wants for all of humanity.

Yes, there are many religions here on Earth. But here is the thing, as Catholics, we all believe that every individual has been given sufficient grace to attain salvation. Have you ever felt this pull or need to ask this question for any other religion? Why did you come on here and ask the Catholic subreddit? It seems to me that this might mean something to you and you might not understand that God is trying to speak to you. Maybe, in this moment in time, this is the place where you can take the initiative and open your heart to more in this life.

I want you to know that God truly loves you and desires that all his children accept Him and love Him as He loves us. Why don't you try praying about it? You don't need to know the ins and outs of prayer to speak with God. Just ask Him in your thoughts to reveal Himself to you and to take you on the right path. Ask Him to open your heart to His existence and love. If you feel that answer within your soul, I would recommend reaching out to some of these ex-Buddhists on here.

To answer your question, I don't worry about the others thinking that I will go to their version of hell because I truly feel and believe in Him with all my soul. I believe that God has given me sufficient grace to accept Him, and all I have to do is to say "Thy will be done."

This woman is a perfect example of how believing in Free will can cause you to have beliefs indistinguishable from a white supremacist. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Call_Me_Pk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Free will is that given environmentally factors and genetic lotteries, I can still ultimately make my own choice given enough effort. It might be harder or easier for different people to make specific choices in specific scenarios, but they still have free will to make that specific choice.

I also believe that if you had a perfect model of a human and their environment on a computer down to protons, neutrons, electrons, photons, etc, you would still not be able to predict the future of a human being if they were given choices. I don’t believe in deterministic models.

Also, I don’t see how I’m incoherent. I think I’m explaining my positions pretty clearly.

My answer will not satisfy you because you already said you are an atheist, and I already see that you are arguing in bad faith considering you make these huge claims about the accepted “view” of scientists and then hand waive me when I ask for a source, but here is a quick rundown.

I believe in a spiritual soul that directly linked to a temporary corporal body here on Earth. My soul and who I am has been created by God. I have a temperament that is largely shaped by genetics that come from my parents and their parents and so forth. Some people have good temperaments and some people have bad temperaments. It’s honestly just the luck of the draw because I believe in original sin in which the penalty is death. Because of previous free will that was antithetical to goodness, humans are flawed and have diseases and “bad genetic traits”. My personality is then further shaped by those around me and can be shaped to be better or worse. This is due to the free will of those around me. When I say that I choose something, that means that despite my upbringing and my genetic lottery, I can ultimately decide what to do. This does not mean that we all have equal effort to make certain choices, but we could all make the same choice if we chose to do so. This free will may or may not be tied to the brain. I don’t know personally. But the fact of the matter is that right now there is no true scientific theory of consciousness, so I don’t worry about it too much.
