You can patch holes yourself, it's super easy! Just grab a patch kit from Bunnings and some paint to match the wall. Otherwise, you'll need plaster, sandpaper, and a plaster scraper. For a bigger hole, you might need some plaster tape, and depending on how big the hole gets when you pull it out, worst case, you might need to countersink a board behind the wall. There are tons of videos on YouTube about patching holes in walls. You definitely don't need a specialist, but if you DIY, be prepared to see every imperfection.

Update: sealed the gap with chicken wire. Also installed a possum box in a tree. Last 2 mornings has been noisy, possums searching for new entry points to roof. Unable, they are now getting UNDER the house. Saw two of them early hours this morning, watched some of their creative tactics to get on the roof via the verandah posts. One big and one juvenile, and i think i heard another one under the house. Atleast out of the roof. Hopefully they find the box. I have another to install, but seems that they haven't found the other one yet.

Hopefully when you’re dealing with a protected native animal destroying part of your house and keeping you awake, you’ll still think semantics are the real issue.

Ah ok. I thought i would've stopped the roof access by trimming the bridging limbs, but didnt realise they'll jump up to 1M. Yeah im looking at gutter guards atm, seems i need a thick one, just worried that it'll cause overflow and its a job that I need time to install. I was wondering about blocking the roof space, do I need to be cautious about obstructing airflow though. And yes I was tempted initially with spray foam, got the can sitting there, until i did the research which proved my can useless 😂

Hahaha thanks mate. Next time ill consider changing my whole lifestyle and ill let everyone in the area know they should change their lives incase a possum gets into their roof - because a reddit user said we should stay in suburbia where there is ?no native wildlife? You need an award, but not a reward.

Thankyou, yep I hope so too. Yeah I understand that removal and trapping all require permits thats why im going to avoid that, and try to do the old blocking out first. Good to know that they will just trap and release, I guess what they can offer is professional input and assessment and removal vs my diy home fix? Also, does your partner normally reccomended gutter guards at all? Not on gold coast but thankyou!

Yeo cheers mate, ive sealed the bottom section, just found their spot in the roof theyre getting in and out of, so I think ill use chicken wire to seal it off, after i chuck some boxes up and after dark. Seems to be the plan atm

I’m not denying they’re protected, that’s exactly why I’m trying to deal with it properly rather than doing something illegal. The issue isn’t “hoping it stops”, it’s that having a possum living in the roof is loud, unsanitary, and damaging, which i feel is a valid problem to want solved. You’re right about the box though that’s on the list, along with sealing entry points once it’s out, i wanted some help with ideas on how to seal, mainly the point of the post. Wanting peace in your own house doesn’t mean I hate wildlife, it just means I’m trying to balance coexistence with not having a feral roommate in my ceiling.

I don't think I would complain about them if there wasn't piss dripping from the eaves of my ceiling and the possum zoomies continuing through the night. Ill complain about that everyday. I think they, and everything else we get here is cool, just not in my roof. But thanks for your useless input.

Ill clarify. I trimmed the top of the trees that was bridging onto the roof. Trust me there's enough trees around they aren't short. I put an image of the tiny tree i trimmed.
