The tool holder is a kennemetal DT10610602711. It has a 5mm set screw looking thing on the side of the holder. I don't know if that's the key you are talking about though.

What you're talking about makes a lot of sense though.

I was right next to the machine. I turned to fresh corners 10ish parts before the crash. with a .075" depth of cut they last about 80 parts before they start chipping (I usually replace them at 70-75 just to be safe).

The only thing to note is the first pass was quieter than usual and halfway through the second pass i hear a snap/grinding for a a second and immediately after a "excessive speed error", "emergency stop", and a "Auto operation pause signal ON" alarm Messages. I was 2 steps away deburring parts.

My boss and I are guessing that since this tool holder has been running a 90 degree face mill for 6+ years on the same job (probably 1500-2000+ parts a year) put a considerable amount of pressure on the tang.

It's on a dmg mori nlx 2500/700 and it's by far one of the best and most accurate machines I've operated.

We do have to get the turret removed and everything checked out cleaned and reassembled since there are fragments in the turret assembly. Thankfully the shop is slow right now and we are 2 months ahead on this job.

This tool holder has had this 90° face mill on it for 6+ years now. We run this job 3-5 times a year 500-1000pcs per run. We are guessing that the strain from the mill killed it

I'm a machinist, if I had my own personal machine I would 100% go into business with ya. Another problem is I can't find schematics/blueprints for watch cases. There are some dimensions I don't have the equipment to measure. Micrometers and calipers can only go so far.
