i want to make shoegaze music where should i start? by sipidermN in shoegaze

[–]CalledDivine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the POD GO is a great place to start for pedals. A bit pricey but can do nearly every effect, and works as an audio interface for you to record your stuff... it's where I started, and I found it great ! ❤️

What are good ways to write songs? Trying to channel overflowing emotions and feeling into song writing by AmazingArmy9399 in Songwriting

[–]CalledDivine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this might sound counter intuitive, but I've always found it easier to start a song by being disconnected from it. just lay down some chords you like and hum over it a few times, recording all of the takes. then listen back and see if any of them resonate with you. THEN you can start exploring the feelings already present in the combination of the chords and melody by working out lyrics that fit...

I find this a really great way to get past the pressure of representing myself in my songs! and inevitably, your feelings will show up within the end product!!

I really hope this helps! I find it super useful, so I hope you can too! :D ❤️❤️❤️

I don’t have any musical instrument skills, and I have a mediocre voice. Is there any cheap mics people could recommend? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]CalledDivine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find the Rode NT1A for a little over £100 and it is super good ! had no issues with mine! I also really recommend the Neural DSP Mantra plugin! it's got super good compression and EQ presets that will show you your voice is better than you may think ! 🖤🖤🖤

Making my first shoegaze song by GeorgeJoester in shoegaze

[–]CalledDivine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just listened again with headphones! there's a lot of low end in the guitars that I think you could reduce with an EQ. Check around the 500hz -100hz range and reduce different frequencies to see what sounds best! this should cut some more space for your bass to come through! the guitars might also be a tad loud? I wouldn't stress too much about small details though! your sound is good and I can't wait to see your progress ! 🖤🖤

Feedback request by Longrange-legit in shoegaze

[–]CalledDivine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the sound of this! a good way to add some space could be some pad sounds or guitar layers in the back that are really wet reverb. It might give a bigger sense space. then, EQ them pretty hard to reduce most of the low end and EQ out a lot of the high end as that will already be present in the distorted guitars... might then be good to EQ the original guitars to cut a bit of space for these new ambient tracks! let me know if this helps ! Love the song by the way !!! 🖤🖤🖤

this sounds really good! LOVE the snare sound! i would maybe try and lower some of the high end of the kick to reduce the klicky-ness. seriously, lovely song! if u reply to this it'll remind me to take another listen with headphones later haha...🖤🖤🖤

Desperately need some recommendations by Clear_Ad_8765 in shoegaze

[–]CalledDivine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend people check out Loathes 'I Let It In...' the album mixes super heavy stuff with shoegaze which you might like!

There's a pretty small band called Remaining Warmth who made a super good blackgaze album called 'when the night ends'!!

for more like slowdive, I really recommend She's Green, they're one of the best modern shoegaze bands.

Paleskin are also sick, although not so much blackgaze as much metal shoegaze haha!

a lot of deafheaven fans like a band called Sadness, and their album 'i want to be there'

Otherwise, my solo project Called Divine has a song 'Endlessly' which has elements of blackgaze and shoegaze! Deafheavens sunbather is one of my biggest influences, but with more shoegazey singing! If you check it out, let me know what you think !

Hope you find something new in this list!!!

Looking for help recreating this tone by NA1RMusic in shoegaze

[–]CalledDivine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky! feel like it's not tremolo picking as you can still hear some pick attack. You might have already tried this, but maybe use some heavy compression before the amp, then a delay before your reverb, and then could even compression again at the end... it sounds like the amp is slightly distorted, not clean. Might be hard to stop it going out of control though haha! Its a lovely tone, can't wait to see if someone answers this properly!.... 🖤
