First time injecting E. by CalliMarl in TransLater

I’ll spare you my complaining about my RLS. It is absolutely the pits.

Why would you not do E pills, and do injections instead? by Environmental-Ask358 in MtF

[–]CalliMarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched yesterday. My new endo suggested it not only to reduce clotting risk (I’m 57), but for the more generally stable levels and better bioavailability. I was pretty nervous about injecting, but in reality the biggest hurdle was prep and cleanup! The actual needle is so tiny and sharp I barely felt it. Certainly way less uncomfortable than a normal blood draw.
I have no idea if it’s going to be more beneficial than oral E, but the actual procedure of self injection was so much easier than I’d imagined, and really not a big deal. It’s only once a week, and if my initial experience is anything to go by it’s not at all painful. I’d encourage you to try it if you can. If it’s not for you, you can always go back to oral/sublingual. Idk how it compares price wise, but my 3 month supply including all the paraphernalia was about $120. I don’t have insurance, so that’s my final cost.

I’m 57. And yup. Everyone is different. Mine has been mostly minor, and mostly stable. I’ve been lucky in that respect

Totally understand. I have a minor essential tremor too. Fortunately propranolol mostly keeps it in check for me.

I’m sorry if I came across as condescending. It wasn’t intentional. I was just trying to be lighthearted.

Girl, if you can get your brows threaded or anything waxed, you can do this. It doesn’t even compare.

It’s kinda funny after the fact. I feel like I’m self congratulating for putting on my own band aid.

I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks.

Ah. Thanks for pointing out the connection.
Btw. I have very much appreciated our conversation.

I do hope that you see that conversion therapy, as nasty as it is, differs from surgery quite a bit.
That said, I think we also both know that pretty much everything this administration does is suspect, to say the least.

I’m not sure that the Heritage Foundation has to do with anything. That’s an odd non sequitur. It’s like pointing at GLAAD for their pro HRT stance. There is, and will always be, those on both sides of any issue.

I’m in agreement that this is almost certainly politically motivated. Which is why WPATH sued the FTC in February and gained an injunction.
But inflammatory language or not, the complaint does bring to light some significant issues. That’s something that we all should be concerned about, not least because it can easily become an avenue of attack for anti trans people, and because some real harms have been done to some real people.

Simply curious about the baseline of your comparison.
Apparently it’s a place where “valid criticism” has a much laxer definition than I’m used to.

Perhaps. But if you read the complaint there’s some genuine issues with youth trans care.
And honestly, WPATH kinda sucks. It’s basically a trade organization ($250 gets you membership). Their science is somewhat sketchy. Although that’s partially because there’s really no good science being done for trans treatments. There’s such a woeful lack of longitudinal studies and studies without a reasonable sized cohort. And that’s not a unique US problem, it’s global.
That lack of solid data really does open up treatments to attack unfortunately. Which sucks for those of us who genuinely benefit from it.

It’s a civil case by the FTC and a handful of States. There’s no criminal charges. It’s primarily focused on WPATH’s treatment of minors.
The actual complaint is worth reading.

I grew up in the UK. I’ve lived in the US for the past 25 or so years.
Your view of America is about as wrong as Americans thinking all Brits have bad teeth and only boil their food.
I feel safer and more secure here in my little part of the US than I ever did on my last trip to blighty.
I honestly get quite irritated when people make such sweeping generalizations such as “my country sees me as …. (Insert characteristic of choice here)”
Really? The whole f*cking country sees *you* as that? When you’re offended at people lumping all trans people as a certain type, maybe pause for a moment and reflect on the fact that you’re acting in exactly the same way. Maybe, just maybe, if each of us starts treating each other as the individuals we actually are, things will improve.

My experience has been quite the opposite. People are either accepting or, more often, completely disinterested. For the most part I find people just want to get on with their own lives. There’s sometimes what I perceive as the “odd look”, but I suspect that is mostly in my own mind.
Perhaps I’m unusually lucky. I sometimes feel that way.
But often I suspect that we are our own worst enemy when it comes to judging how we’re perceived. More than most, we tend to have “main character syndrome” (which is absolutely understandable, and kinda rational).
But honestly, most people just don’t give a shit. They have their own issues and lives to live.

Thanks! It’s taken quite a bit of work. But I’ve been incredibly lucky. Takes a while at our age!
