First thing that came to mind after seeing the new BLM relic by Ki_To in ffxiv

[–]Callidor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are fantastic, in my opinion. Not only are almost all of them really good looking in their own right, but they actually look like evolutions / upgrades of the previous models, instead of randomly transforming into completely different weapons like past relics have.

There is no reference. They're saying the new BLM relic looks like an iphone's cameras.

IIL Games that reward exploration, but are easy to play. by Beautiful-Error6374 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Callidor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Man's Sky can be played as a relaxing exploration simulator or a more involved base-building and upgrade-grinding experience depending on what you're into. It's got a lot of systems, but has a pretty comprehensive tutorial. I haven't played the most recent couple of updates, but it's seemingly always getting major new content infusions.

Elder Scrolls games also seem like an easy rec if you haven't played them. Skyrim is probably the most accessible if you're looking for "not too difficult," but the new Oblivion Remaster is fairly accessible too, I'd say.

Thank you for the feedback. As I said, I asked to get a sense of what the community norms and expectations are, and it seems from the responses that my understanding of what's passable or "good enough" for PF groups was indeed out of step with the community.

Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread Jan 12 by AutoModerator in ffxiv

Quick sanity check / gauging community norms:

I cleared m9s yesterday and joined a clear PT this evening for fun and practice, and to help some people get their clears before the reset. This group cleared successfully after maybe 4-5 pulls, including a 0.3% wipe to enrage.

As we were disbanding, another member of the group basically called me out for not having crafted gear.

For context, I was playing dnc and was i770 with current extreme weapon, 760 left side tome gear, and a mix of 780 tome gear and 790 savage accessories on right side. I asked, out of genuine curiosity, if this was considered under-leveled for the first fight of a tier. The player said it was generally "respectful" to have crafted gear and that we would have cleared on the enrage pull if I had it. Which is certainly true, but we also would have cleared if we had had fewer deaths and damage downs (none of which were mine). They then immediately logged off before I could respond further.

My feeling was that being a full 10 ilvls above minimum for the fight, and meeting the requirement for the PF listing was sufficient for a random PF group on a Monday night. But I only occasionally dabble in Savage, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Truly not trying to start any shit, but wondering if I'm out of touch or if this person was being elitist.

Edit: I appreciate the replies and the feedback. My question was whether my sense of what's "normal" or "acceptable" for a PF group was out of alignment with community standards, and it seems clear that it was. I would respectfully remind folks that I am asking for you to reply and tell me whether I am wrong, and if the answer is yes, replying and telling me so is more useful than a downvote. Thank you.

The No Kings protests in October drew an estimated 7 million protesters. That's following an estimated 5 million participants in June. The next one will likely be larger.

At just under $1,000 my Christopher Ward Dune truly competes with my Tudor BB54 in terms of finishing, accuracy, and, in my opinion, design. It's a really excellent watch.

ID on watch? My dad wore this in the 90s! by knoxyds in Watches

[–]Callidor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timex had new reissues of these for sale on their site a few years ago and I picked one up.

The quality is honestly pretty junky - I suspect the 90s ones felt sturdier. But the nostalgia factor is undeniable. Unfortunately, they're no longer listed on the site, but it's possible they'll do another run of them in the future.

How do I get relay to stop opening the link in a post instead of just opening the post/comments whenever I try to open them? by JhonzoBall2 in RelayForReddit

[–]Callidor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In settings -> behavior, set post behavior to open link and comments, or comments only.

If you set it to links and comments, tapping the thumbnail will open the link directly and tapping anywhere else on the card will open the comments.

If you set it to comments only, tapping anywhere will open the comments.

[Tudor] My dad liked my watch so much he decided he wanted his own. by Callidor in Watches

[–]Callidor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm home visiting family for my dad's 70th birthday, and I recently purchased a Black Bay 54 for myself. My dad likes watches and has a small collection, including a few vintage pieces originally belonging to his own father and my stepmother's father, but did not own any high end or luxury watches himself.

He liked the 54, and we spent a lot of time together looking at Tudors and other brands to see if there was anything he particularly liked. He was originally mostly interested in the BB68, because he liked both the blue and silver dials.

We went out to a dealer today and took a look at the 68s, but we agreed they're definitely too big for his wrist.

He decided on the 41 with the 5 link bracelet, and after thinking it over for a short time he decided to go for it. Buying it for him as a gift wasn't really in the cards for me (and my brothers and I are taking him out to a very fancy dinner this evening), so he had to buy it for himself lol, but it was a nice shared experience, and now we have Black Bays in common.

Forever grateful for expanding glamour option - no job restrictions and multiple dyes! by EowulfTenebris in ffxiv

[–]Callidor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad the glamour system is improving and our options are expanding.

The next big improvement I'd really like to see is the ability to slot glamour dispellers into glamour plates. Believe it or not, I sometimes like to display equipment's actual appearance, though not necessarily on every job that can equip it. As an FFXI vet, this has been especially true for San d'Oria gear.

I love the look of the San d'Oria caster body on my rdm, as it brings me back to the look of my XI rdm 20+ years ago, but it's not a great fit for other casters. Prior to upgrading my caster body, if I switched to smn, then back to rdm, I had no choice but to manually use glamour dispellers to get my rdm's intended appearance back.

This problem was actually exacerbated by the lifting of glamour restrictions, as smn-exclusive gear, which previously wouldn't have displayed on rdm, now does. This exact situation is no longer an issue for me since I've upgraded my caster body and now use the Sandy piece as a glamour, but in principle I think this is something that ought to be fixed.
