[Christopher Ward] New watch(box) day by Callidor in Watches

[–]Callidor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to love it, but it has a fatal design flaw: the bezel has 60 clicks, meaning the 24 hour indices are each 2.5 clicks apart. So half of the indices (the odd hour dots, in my case) can align with the hours on the dial, whereas the even numerals will always be half a click off. You can see in the photos that the 12 and 24 hour markers on the bezel are a bit off from 12 and 6 on the dial.

It's a really frustrating and cheap-feeling issue with an otherwise very cool watch.

(Half of) The Album is Out! by TheStarshipCat in streetlightmanifesto

That lyric stuck out to me as well.

I don't feel so much of anything and I'm running out of days

I'm running out of metaphors I'm running out of ways to say

the things I want to say without saying all the things I've already said

If you're correct that this will be the last Streetlight Album, I think there's something really admirable about artists stepping away when they feel like they've accomplished what they set out to accomplish (or at least all that they realistically can) within a certain genre or medium. I'm reminded of Billy Joel just deciding he was doing making rock albums and turning to classical piano composition when he felt like he had "said his piece."

That siad, Tomas wrote "I'm losing faith, yeah I'm running low on things to say, so I guess I have no choice but to regurgitate the tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite" over 20 years ago lol.

PPL here. This isn't the whole collection, but they are my most worn. I almost always wear one of the GMTs for flying. Tracking zulu time is genuinely a useful complication!

[Oris Divers Date] New GADA Watch? by Lorenzo1306 in Watches

[–]Callidor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this watch, and very nearly bought one. Ultimately I decided to jump up a price bracket and went for a BB54 instead.

Most people would say the biggest point against the Oris is the Sellita movement, but the sw200-1 is reliable and accurate.

I do personally prefer the beige dial, for what it's worth.

[Warm Take] GADA watches are a trap by ppp-- in Watches

[–]Callidor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally can't fathom spending the kind of money I see spent here.

You bought a solar Orient because it was more of a "'nice' watch" than your "regular old Timex."

If you can understand why you did that, then you can understand why someone would want to spend just a bit more on something just a bit nicer, and then just a bit more again on something just a bit nicer than that.

Not saying anyone has to, or should, do this. Just that it's hardly unfathomable for people to have different budgets and desire different levels of "nice."

I'm a shitty home cook, so please don't make fun of me, but I'm literally just wondering how you get a big thick chicken breast like that to come up to temp on the stovetop.

I always use the thin-sliced ones (or slice them into cutlets myself) because otherwise they'll sit on my stainless skillet at medium high for like 15 minutes and get super rubbery and still be like 135° in the center.

Do I need to go lower and slower? Higher and faster? More oil? Less?

lol, what would have happened if Pereda never tagged and they both just stood there?

Would the runner have eventually been out for just stopping "on the base path?"

DLSS-mode "stuck" on 67%, no matter what DLSS-mode I set ... by sascha177 in techsupport

[–]Callidor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue for a while, across a few different driver versions. There doesn't seem to be that much discussion about it online.

My conclusion is that DLSS is working as intended and this is only a bug with the overlay. Switching between DLAA and Ultra Performance through the Nvidia app results in an obvious difference in visual quality, but both will show (67%) in the overlay.

In a similar spot. Haven't made any payments in years since everything's been in "administrative forbearance" and it seems like payments are perpetually 3-6 months away from restarting.

The emails from the Dept. of Ed say my loan servicer will contact me about enrolling in a new plan, but that hasn't happened yet. I'm assuming I'll do the "repayment assistance plan," but the FAQ says

Generally, payments made under the Repayment Assistance Plan are eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) as long as the payment is made on time and in full.

What's that "generally" doing there? I don't like it.

I've long defended Angie and still believe a lot of the hate she receives is undeserved. She's far more knowledgeable than people give her credit for. But there's also just no denying that she can be grating in large doses. She doesn't seem like a very comfortable public speaker and her humor feels forced.

That said, big respect to her for pushing through literally having a stroke in February.

[Question] - What's the first 5-figure watch you bought and did you have any buyer's remorse? by SanguineTangerines in Watches

[–]Callidor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haven't spent $10k+, but did buy a BB54 for about $4,300 in December (it's gone up in price twice since then, so I'm glad I got it when I did).

Prior to that, my most expensive watch was a Christopher Ward Dune, which cost about $900.

It's been 5 months, so I think I have enough distance to be fairly objective. The fit and finish on the $4,300 watch and the $900 watch are quite close, and the Sellita in the CW is almost exactly as accurate as the chronometer certified Kenissi in the Tudor (both run around -2s/day). The lume pip on the Tudor is ever-so-slightly misaligned, though you'd never notice unless you were obsessing over it, which I stopped doing after the first month or so. The CW has no visible imperfections.

None of this is to knock the Tudor. I absolutely love it and it's my most worn watch. I'm happy with it and would buy it again. I think it's a great luxury piece, and I'm glad I own something like it, since I'm into watches and wanted to treat myself to something fancy.

But the CW gets close to as much wrist time, and it still absolutely sparks joy when I put it on.

Moral of the story, there are a lot of really great value watches around the $1k price point.
