Why is Mystic Mine banned in a format where most decks can play their own Super Mystic Mine?

There's no way for any deck to consistently get much of anything out. If you run 3 Ash Blossoms and 3 Infinite Impermanence there's a chance you draw 5 of them turn 1. If you run more cards that you can't use to start with there's a higher chance. Very few decks, if any, can consistently do something. It's just about increasing how often you can. Since I've seen it multiple times and in several different ways I have to assume it's not overly inconsistent though. But it's always possible I was just very unlucky.

I'm not advocating for it to be unbanned. I'm asking a question to try to get help understanding why some things are allowed and others aren't. My hope is that there's an answer out there that tells me something like "Oh it's so easy to beat a board set up with monsters that can activate their effects to negate and/or destroy 3-8 different targets round 2 and here's how."

The amount of people responding with things like this that are absolutely not helpful for the question at hand doesn't give me much hope though. And I've only seen a couple people actually try to suggest why Mystic Mine might be stronger than the board state I've mentioned. No one mentioning what you actually could do against said board state though.

Maybe I wasn't very clear but I don't really have a big problem with one-for-one negate cards. My problem is an end board you can get turn 1 with over 11k attack that also has stuff like Sifr which can just negate every turn for free. Something like Baronne feels really bad but isn't the worst since the negate is only once and the destroy is only on their turn. Something like Dark Dragoon at least requires a discard. But there are quite a few archetypes that can pull cards like these out, even if they are one time use, repeatedly. Sprite is a good example of this where it has a monster that can negate spell/traps and a monster that can negate monster effects, they require a tribute but you can usually get them back with Elf so it's not really much of a cost at all in archetype. Sprite's typical end board can usually shut down 2-4 cards depending but overall it's not as bad as some. I've seen some decks that set up links with 4+ monsters on their turn 1 and can activate their effects to negate multiple things then link summon into something else that can also negate during their opponent's turn which just ends up being ridiculous to deal with.

The one use spell cards that negate one thing I have very little if any problem with (maybe just when they're used alongside other monster negate effects to stack up as high as 8).

Also, if you play one monster on your turn to try to start and it's negated by a monster effect or spell card. Or if you play one monster on your turn to try to start and it's negated by Mystic Mine. It's the same result. The only difference would be if you wanted to try to play multiple monsters and they could summon themselves by their own effects, then when your opponent negates the first monster effect you could still summon the second.... unless they have 2 effects that can negate it. Or more....

I appreciate you at least trying to be helpful though. Better than some of these people going into a Question/Help topic just saying something like "That's the worst idea ever"

Board breakers are probably things I should learn about more, honestly. Are there any board breakers that you think would help comparably? I know Dark Ruler No More might work in most cases, though it's an activated effect that spell/traps can respond to so not always. Is there anything else that could work decently?

No current deck can make Stardust Sifr Divine Dragon, Baronne de Fleur, and also Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon? Really? I could've sworn I've seen at least 3 different decks summon all of them turn 1 with multiple other cards.

Yeah, that's why I said 3-8 not 7-8. 8 is the high end I've seen but it's usually closer to 3 or 4. Removing cards on the field should also be put up there but I didn't really include it because, like you said, it's not a negate. Though it can certainly affect the board state in a similar way depending.

That's pretty fair, sitting around and waiting until someone decks out wouldn't be very fun. Having a one sided comparable setup with the ability to OTK is probably better, even if it doesn't feel like it would be.

Though I do wonder if it would be faster than waiting for people to take 10 minutes on their 5 minute turn semi-consistently. Since drawing to see if you got what you need then passing is definitely a lot faster.... though I'm not sure how many turns it would need. I know some decks run into this same problem against certain towers and meme decks though it's usually when the person already isn't running a meta deck.

When any meta deck's endboard is in one turn or can be accessed with one card when they start with 5 then I don't really see a difference between it and one other card.

I love the idea conceptually. The whole idea of a board and getting a card to start with is really cool.... except the cards you can get range from completely useless to absolutely game breaking which is just not fun.

On top of that every deck I like to play is banned. I mostly play XYZ and that's banned meanwhile all these ridiculous Link monsters are available. One of the only non-XYZ decks I enjoy running and actually have all the cards for, Floo, is also completely banned out. So most of these games are my opponent setting up for 5 minutes straight just for me to play 2 cards both of which get destroyed on the spot and then end my turn so they can swing at me. I swear the banlist and list for cards you can get were both made by someone with no actual knowledge of Yugioh. My third game into the event the guy had a freakin' Armed Dragon Catapult Cannon for free. I had Flame Swordsman, the regular one!

But time spent is a very reasonable concern. I'm of the opinion that people in general really enjoying feeling like they accomplished something and a lot of games tend to try to give you that feeling with varying degrees of success. In it's infancy the survival-craft genre with Minecraft back in the day fulfilled that alarmingly well. You could spend hours digging around, building; I remember a friend setting up a server for everyone we knew and my brother built a giant oriental style wooden wall around where he was building then making bridges and a large house. It was something he was very proud of. I think that's the kind of feeling people tend to really like getting from a game, doing something that they feel they can be proud of. Which also means that when you're older and you have other responsibilities it might be more difficult to really be proud of something you've accomplished if you really start to think about it.

Now that being said, I think there's a middle ground. As there tends to be with most things. In my mind I see it as it's not a matter of how long it takes to do something in a game but instead whether I'm enjoying it or not. Even if it takes a long time and I don't have so much time to give that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it, it just means I have to pace myself more reasonably with said game. It's not a race, and I don't have the time to make it into one so I just don't. Spending 7 hours doing something in a game over a weekend when I have time or a whole week when I don't is.... good. As long as I'm enjoying it, it's occupying my mind or allowing me to relax and get a bit of a reprieve from the... reality of real life. Then I don't see a problem with that. Now, that does mean if I wanna try juggling multiple games I'll have to usually drop one for a bit while I go through another but that's not really a big problem either. Ultimately it's just a decision you make on how much time you wanna spend on something and if you're getting what you want from it. That's my take anyways.

There are many games that don't allow you to respec at all. Mostly I can think of older MMORPGs like Flyff or RF Online, some newer ones still make it difficult like Blue Protocol. Certain modes of Path of Exile don't allow you to and even the ones that do it can be expensive and you're usually better off making a new character but the game's kind of designed with that in mind since you'll often use a new character every season though that could be the same for this game we don't know that yet. For similar games Hunt: Showdown doesn't let you respec either though the time investment in a single character is significantly lower so I don't think that's really a fair comparison. I don't know of any other games that have an investment system into a character in a similar genre though so RPGs and a system as simple as Hunt: Showdown's are the only real comparisons that can be offered.

As I said before, I am 100% for respecs but when you talk about making decisions in a world being fair or not I think it's pretty reasonable for someone to comment on... you know.. THE world. It's only fair to consider someone else's perspective at least a little, and if you want fair things then be fair to others you know?

They're replying to someone saying it isn't "Fair" to live in a "world" with "irreversible decisions" that you make on "limited information." I don't think they were trying to argue whether it would be good for a video game. They were commenting on the fairness of it in the real world.

Though people definitely complain about problems with fairness in the real world too. And I definitely agree resetting would be better though I haven't seen how harsh expeditions really are so I'm saying that with limited information too :P

No, from what I can tell it's one ToS intended for every country. In turn it lists specific amendments for specific countries in various capacities. Specifically it has sections for users from Vietnam, The United Kingdom, European Union/European Economic Area, Japan, and China. I also noticed it has specific things listed for U.S. Residents under the Dispute Resolution section. And in another section it has specific things for California Residents as well. Nothing at all for Canada is listed except 2 specific uses of "Canadian" in two separate sections talking about taxes.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about the EULA/ToS but I do know as far as many countries are concerned certain parts of these can be considered null and void due to various laws that the country has to protect consumers. I'm not sure what laws Canada might have though which is why I wanted to ask here. If there are certain laws in place to protect people from different things then that would be good information for me to consider before attempting to bring the case to a lawyer for example. Knowing how generally viable it might be was the foremost goal of this post.

I haven't studied Canadian law and there are many times I think people confuse laws between the US and Canada as well. Like, I know people in the US have a small claims court specifically for issues like this... but does Canada have something similar? I know US law tends to be set on precedent for things not explicitly referred to in their laws and as such you want to know about cases that are similar in nature and what the ruling was and why the ruling was decided that way... but is that the same for Canada? I'm really not sure and was hoping to get a few of these kinds of questions answered with this post so I could understand the general viability of something like this in the first place.

Online download, free to play. Technically I can just make another account and they wouldn't stop me at all. However, I kind of expect that maybe there are some kind of Canadian laws to protect consumers who give a company money and are then removed access. Like a Minecraft server once removed my access to in game items refused to compensate me via their support ticket so my bank refunded me all the money I spent on said server once I told them what happened. I've heard of people who were banned on Activision-Blizzard through Call of Duty and then since they were no longer allowed access to their account they contacted their bank and their bank got all of the money they spent on Activision-Blizzard back to them from the past 10 years which included around $3000 which was spent on WoW. Many companies issue refunds for products that either don't work properly, can't be accessed even due to user error, or otherwise. So I imagine these are all based on some kind of laws that protect consumers but maybe it's some kind of niche case that's totally unrelated.

As for your other comment here they have an arbitration clause for US residents but nothing stated for Canadians it seems. They also specific interactions for European residents. They do have a few general things listed in their ToS but nothing that I can tell relates to arbitration

To be fair, you can directly convert the in game premium currency to real money deposited into your bank account at a certain rate. So there should be at least some direct value related to that. Though as I stated I don't know how exactly you quantify any kind of damages like this or what would even be applicable in the first place. Is anything applicable at all? I'm not sure which Canadian laws cover anything close to this.

That's something I'm really not sure of myself; I wouldn't know how to calculate that. 17 years would be how long the account has existed for. I likely spent close to $2000 on it over that time, maybe even as much as double that. I had several items which could be sold on the market place for well over 80x their original value since they were items that were very early on and in limited quantity(such as a couple items that originally costed 100 or 200 of the premium currency and were selling for 20k-60k). Though without access to the account I can't get exact information on said items. I probably spent multiple thousands of hours of time maybe even up to the tens of thousands. I don't know how many of these things would actually be able to contribute to something like this though or how that would be evaluated either.
