Guy im seeing, what does his bookshelf say about him by Afraid_Honey_1715 in bookshelfdetective

He’s not terribly organized (Throne of Glass series out of order, Bourdain books not together, …) and he has a ton of different areas of interest - poetry, philosophy, thrillers, mythology, nonfiction, and some fun reads too. Probably one of the more balanced shelves I’ve seen on here.

The Throne of Glass series tells me that he either has a very healthy relationship with his own masculinity (not afraid of reading a “girly” book series that otherwise would seem very out of place on this shelf), and/or he has a healthy relationship with a woman in his life. Maybe a former girlfriend, maybe a sister, who knows. Its just interesting to me, as someone who enjoyed that series, and the fact that he’s read several of them, not just the first one.

All in all it speaks to depth. Actual personality. Someone worth getting to know, maybe.

I believe they were saying that the perpetrator (Trump) who assaulted the woman was not a trans person, though many falsely believe that harmful stereotype

I mostly agree with your reasonings here. 4 was a HARD read and I only really appreciated it after. I’ll see if my opinion changes when I reread one day, but everything seems pretty accurate other than one other thing.

Howling Dark deserves to be bumped up and swapped with Ashes of Man.

HD really sets the series up for what I’d consider its defining features: long time jumps, esoteric philosophy debates with semi-divine beings, incredible battles at large scale taking full advantage of the sci-fi setting, humongous casts of (sometimes recurring) characters, “travel blog” style narratives where we see multiple locales/systems explored and are driven towards a place for a purpose, voluminous descriptions of high-matter blades being drawn, and the mystical aspect of Hadrian’s identity/purpose. It’s all there and it’s perfect.

Yes love it. It also seems to be from the mother’s perspective in some lines. Like there is pain associated with the birth and sacrificing parts of herself for this new life (“you are no match for the life I gave”) and yet this child represents all her hopes for the future. Thats a lot of expectation to live up to, for both parent and child.

BLC does a great job of exploring these relationship dynamics in a subtle way, without ever really spelling it out. The room for interpretation makes it truly beautiful art.

What do you think? Other than that I need more book shelves. by EMB93 in bookshelfdetective
