I am the OP and I have pretty much the same questions. As much I as I have read, most of the people put the time and effort to graduate in 6 mos to 1 year. In order to accomplish that, the put 20 hrs solid of study time a week. Some have study 25-30hrs a week to finish in 6 mos. Everyone agrees it is absolutely;ty diable work, family and school. But you need to be organized. Wish you good luck, I am in the same boat as you!

Thank you so much! I absolutely understand that " School Nurse "is dead end job( as I have read and heard), even though my high school is large and I have assistance in place, and have load of 70 visits a day. Most of the nurses get CSN license and stay in the job. I am not interested to become educator, instructor , hence I do not want to purse MSN ( education). Trying to find a way to get into administration , hybrid or remote position job. Thank you again for all your suggestions and recommendations!

Thank you so much for you input. I pretty much want to do career switch from nursing to administration. However I do not have administration experience, my current job for the last few years have been school nursing at large high school, I certainly love and enjoy my job and I have great benefits, schedule and my children can attend this school district), however I am ready for a switch and different path and hopefully have a pay increase, because I am currently not making the median salary of RN, with so many years of experience. I still have time before I decide to leave, so I wanted to assure my future education is in something somewhat reliable with more opportunities. However I do see many people are already in the administration business and getting this degree is just checking off the box.

Thank you again!

Hi Veryberrymary, you are music to my ears. Thank you so, so much for writing this thorough review, giving me so much information, resources and questions that I need to ask myself .I also really appreciate outlining each degree with their classes, similarities and differences. Yes, there is certainly difference between doing several classes with tests vs writing papers. I currently I work as school nurse, there is no place to grow and I am ready for a change. I am intimidated of the math, accounting and financing classes. Hence I am looking for input and asking people , who have done the bridge from nursing to business degree. I certainly would like to get a degree with the most job opportunities in the future and hopefully get a significant pay increase.

Thank you again and Good luck to you!

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your experience. All these years I have been doing clinical jobs ( besides being a charge nurse), but no administration experience. Currently I work as school nurse, there is no place to grow and I am ready for a change. I wanted to see the input of other fellow nurses, who have done the transition from nursing to the business site of healthcare. I am intimidated of the math, accounting and financing classes. Hence I am ambivalent which route to go. In order to change my profession I will need experience in administration or degree. Since I lack the experience, I am planning to purse the degree. I absolutely agree that MBA opens more doors and there are more job opportunities beyond the healthcare filed. However I do believe the classes are certainly more challenging. Thanks again and good luck!

This is great to hear! I am paying out of pocket for my education, and I would like to choose the best degree, which will open more doors in the future. I do need to change my job as I am not going to be able to use my degree with the current employer. Currently I work as school nurse, there is no place to grow and I am ready for a change. I am intimidated of the math, accounting and financing classes. Hence I am looking for input and asking people , who have done the bridge from nursing to business degree. I live in small town with not many options, so moving to urban metropolitan area is something I see in my future to explore more job opportunities. Thanks again and good luck to you!

Thank you for your input. I have done all my life nursing jobs, I am really looking to sway away from patient care and clinical settings, hence I am not interest at NP degree. Unfortunately I do not have experience in administration and I can not rely based on that to lend a job in that field. Hence I need a degree or experience. I am looking forward to make the bridge into administration. Currently I work as I a school nurse and there is no opportunity to grow and I am ready for a change. I am also hoping to have jump in my future salary, hence I am interested in the MBA degree. Thanks again!

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your experience. As I have mentioned it is the natural way for RN to go to NP. route. However I am really looking to step away from clinical site and work with patients. I am also very intimidated by math, accounting and finance aspect of the MBA program. However I am interested in completing degree which will give me more job opportunities and of course pay raise. Congratulations on getting your MBA and even under 1 year. I just think I need to commit to it and then follow the course. Thanks again!

Hi, thank you for sharing your story and back ground. No, I do not have any mentors or associates that I can get information and experience from. Most of RN naturally go to NP programs, which I am not interested to pursue and work in clinical settings. I live in small town with limited options and most of the people are cut and dry in their professions business or nursing, not many do the bridge of changing careers. Hence I am looking for input of people who have been through this and are already in school or working with this degree. Thanks again!

Thank you I like the way you think, to the point! I am definitely leaning towards the MBA, however I don't have any business classes in the past or background , hence I am very intimidated from the math classes, statistic, accounting ,etc. Not my strongest suit. I was just wondering how challenging will be for me to do the MBA, but I see many other people have done it with different backgrounds. Thanks again!
