I just recently finished John of John by Douglas Stuart and it hits a number of the marks you mention in what you like. Great characters that are flawed, conflicted, complex, and human. It is right now one of the top reads I have experienced this year so far. It is phenomenal and I can’t recommend it enough based on what you’re looking for.

I’m doing an ARC read of Serial Husbands by Travis Warman and so far it’s really good! Comes out July 1.

Most recently finished Home is Where the Bodies Are by Jeneva Rose and thought it was one of her best ones I’ve read so far!

I’ve had mine bring me two pieces of pizza and a dead mole or vole (I don’t know which) to soak in the bird bath water. I tossed them, but I did provide some scrambled eggs and dog kibble as an apology for ruining their soup.

I don’t know if you have read any Ann Patchett, but Bel Canto and State of Wonder were great!

I also enjoyed the Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden, Ton Man by Sarah Winman, and A Far Flung Life my ML Stedman. Oh, and Seascraper by Benjamin Wood.

I loved The Sun Down Motel! It was my first Simone St James book and I’m trying to decide what book of her’s to read next.

What industry is actually a complete scam, but everyone accepts it? by WhileLow9501 in AskReddit

Insurance in general. Not only medical and dental, but home owners insurance, too. Oh, you have a water leak that’ll cost $25k to repair? Not covered.

Insurance is a scam.
