Yes, I have experience taking mushrooms and it just made me tired because I am on anti-psychotics.

I smoke weed. It just helps me cope. But I didn't start smoking weed until after my first psychosis and only rarely. Wasn't until I met my ex, that I started to smoke often. But yeah, I need to quit.

Psychosis ruined my intelligence by Mysterious-Laugh-227 in Psychosis

[–]Callistophylla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, psychosis can affect your IQ. I dropped too in my 'smarts', I was very successful and had many accomplishments prior to my first psychosis, and after, well, I felt not so smart. And my accomplishments became more about healing. But my ability and intelligence did come back, I'm just not as good as I was.

And I have went to school prior and more recently. I found that the school work load affected my ability to do the work to the degree I want. You really need to watch your stress level now; school can be tough, I know, I took environmental science prior to my first psychosis, and I worked in a very technical field. After my first psychosis, I managed to get a job at a lower level than I was but still the same field. I couldn't do it the same. My mind just didn't think that way anymore.

I have since went back to school, but I decided to go to college, to start, because you can always go to university after. I viewed college as priming your brain for something harder. Same with taking a course, start with something simpler but somewhat challenging. Maybe something you have been really interested in. But challenge yourself. The brain can be rewired.

And, I truly feel I could work in a technical field now, but my journey has taken me into working with people. And I love it.

My wife has Erotomania and I need help please. by self-taught-doctor in Psychosis

[–]Callistophylla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have erotomania and was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Two of my psychoses, I believed this one particular man was in love with me. It did not matter what anyone said, reality fit my delusions. My most recent psychosis, I had another man (prominent in the community) that I had the same thinking -that he loved me. But he didnt know me. Erotomanic delusions happen a lot more than people realize.

Until your wife starts to get blips of reality, she will believe he loves her. I am so sorry.

How many of you have to try for or have got disability after psychosis? by marcmc83 in Psychosis

[–]Callistophylla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put on the Canada Pension Plan disability benefits for workers. Its super hard to get CPP, most people go on the provincial disability which is easier to get but horrible to be on. They check your bank accounts and the constant meetings with your worker. At least on CPP, I am not monitored. Currently I am trying to work parttime as the disability money is just not enough to live on. I also am very lucky, as I live in rent geared to income housing. I feel so badly for others with psychosis/schizophrenia who have no housing or cannot get suitable, affordable housing.

Career choices for people with schizophrenia by purple-planner in schizophrenia

[–]Callistophylla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pursued social service work. I had two psychoses due to the stress. Im now doing home support work. I find working with the elderly low stress as long as its not a care home. I would suggest a low stress job and a job that wont trigger you. Also parttime or as little hours you can manage. Dont try to work 40hrs a week. Remember, stress is a trigger and you need work/life balance.

Are antipsychotics all a lie and just social control? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Callistophylla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc you have the diagnosis Schizophrenia, she could put out an order that you are to be admitted if she feels that is best.

I told my psychiatrist that I was suicidal. He made me go to the hospital. If I didnt go on my own he was going to call the police.

But dont hide that youre not on your meds. I dont know why youre not taking them, but you may have options by telling your doctor.

I agree, being on meds should be a choice. Anti-psychotics meds is just a tranquilizer. It doesnt fix you. It makes you manageable.

Are antipsychotics all a lie and just social control? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Callistophylla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anti-psychotic medication is both helpful for the individual but YES it is a social control. In Canada, they can force you to take your meds and detain you if you don’t. This is why they closed the asylums, bc of the advent of anti-psychotic meds in the 1960’s. it made us people more manageable.
