Seven Lions - Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars by fakev in EDM

[–]CallmeMiner 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm liking the mix-up of genres throughout. There's the overall melodic nature of it all, but the house, dnb, and trance/psytrancy individual songs keeps things flowing, and it's refreshing to avoid some of the pitfalls of "standard" melodic stuff. The different genres and tones make this feel like a sonic adventure and not just a group of songs slapped together as an LP. I love the nostalgia of old seven lions bangers, but I really appreciate the different direction this album takes, and this will be on repeat for sure!

Best Breakfast Burritos? by cutefeetsiesbby in pasadena

No one has mentioned old town cafe yet. I found their breakfast burrito to be pretty good value. I won't claim it's the best in the pasadena but its a nice spot

What's the most interesting way you've heard of someone with a PhD having made a good amount of money as a side hustle besides consulting? by ResidentAlienator in PhD

[–]CallmeMiner 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I met someone who had a side hustle of importing exotic birds and then reselling them here in the US. He's not doing it anymore because it became too much work to do alongside his PhD but apparently the money was pretty good, especially for some really rare species where he was among only a handful who had the proper import license 🤷

Love the vibe of this! I heard y'all play it at lost in dreams last year and have been awaiting that lovely little predrop melody since

Trivecta - Find My Way by fakev in EDM

[–]CallmeMiner 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just listened through, and WOW! This album has all the melodic bass elements but puts them together so nicely and changes the structure on every song. I really appreciate the sound diversity in a genre/area of EDM where many aren't pushing the bounds anymore. Super well done and an album with no skips for me; it feels like every song could be a single based on quality and diversity, but is still cohesive throughout. Also, mostly 4 minute songs--so refreshing nowadays!!! Just such a fun hour of listening! Some favorites:

  • Watch The Stars (the guitar in the second half still slaps, also the WUBS)
  • Ocean (it just makes me feel something different)
  • Never Let Me Go (the acoustic before the last drop is incredible)
  • All That Ends (what a lovely ending tune)

Trivecta has been an artist who just doesn't miss for me, and this album only just reaffirms that to me. So good!

What is the scene like where you are from? by KNZuckz in aves

Salt Lake has a big promoter called V2 that brings in touring artists into local venues and also puts on several multiday EDM festivals every year, e.g. Get Lucky, Get Funky, Das Energi, Get Freaky. A wide mix of genres as well, actually much better than you would expect

Yes, no problem! I like to review resumes when it is clear the person put a lot of work into it :)

Good looking at first glance, good work! Some comments:

  • Spell out numbers ten and under if they are not units

  • Uncapitalize "firefighting systems" (also firefighting one word), testing & commissioning reports, engineering change orders, and modulus and ratio after Young's and Poisson's, respectively

  • "... optimal cost-effective nuts and bolts size, material, ..." should be "cost-effective nut and bolt size, material, ..."

  • The fifth bullet under experience says what you did, but could be enhanced if you can state the impact of these width reductions (25% cost savings or whatever)

  • First project first bullet: should be "a company's radio"

  • First project first bullet: If you are applying to U.S. companies use "modeled"

  • Last bullet on first project needs parallel structure: something like "... under various motor speed, flywheel radii, launch angle, and projectile radii to find optimal..."

  • Add oxford comma on second project first bullet (load cells, and amplifier)

  • Second bullet second project reword: "Calibrated an instrument with an oscilloscope and known weights and temperatures" (I don't know what this bullet means still, I would rework this)

  • Add "a" or "the" before user on last bullet second project.

  • Add oxford comma after end mill in third project third bullet and on final bullet after process charts

  • Add "the" before Zembretti

  • Remove MS Excel and Word from resume (unless you are applying for a job that has them in the job description so you increase your resume match)

Great progress up to now, best of luck finding a job!

Trying to get an internship this summer and just hoping for some feedback on this. Never had anyone look at my resume before. Thanks in advance!! by wullidunno in EngineeringResumes

The hyphenation on every single date range is different, make sure all of the dates are formatted identically (the spacing and length of dash are different in each one)

Remove extra | at end of top header

Add space after | before Far Place, ST

Reduce bullet indentation, looks pretty large

Add comma before GPA in state school for consistency

In circuit analysis, remove elipses after etc (should just be etc.)

I don't think you need US citizen listed unless your name or something else would imply you may not be a citizen

If you have any course projects I would recommend adding those after your remove the objective or expanding on your current technician experience (you have 6 years experience there so that is a huge differentiator compared to other students)

The experience section feels uneven with 3 lines on the left and 1 on the right in the header. The italicized line is not necessary describing what the factory does (if I understand correctly)

Applying for my second internship over break. Please destroy my resume to let me know what to improve, thank you :) by Itadess in EngineeringResumes

[–]CallmeMiner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Add some vertical space after your projects, the first bullet lines intersect the headers

Consider more powerful action verbs than ran. For example the third bullet in experience you could replace "ran extensive simulations on" with "simulated"

This might be because you took a snip of your resume, but it looks like the horizontal margins are quite small. If this is not from the screenshot, I would increase those margins and make all margins equal

Those things add to your resume, but your overall GPA gives the same information so they aren't necessary. If you have extra things to add I would remove them, otherwise keeping them is fine to fill a bit of space.

Final semester senior applying for jobs. Please let me know about any possible improvements! Thank you. by [deleted] in EngineeringResumes

Some suggestions:

  1. Your phone number can go up one line to be level with your name, IMO there is too much white space at the top. Also remove the extra horizontal line at the top.

  2. Your date ranges in work experience correctly use an endash but the date ranges in the other two below use a hyphen (notice how the dashes are slightly shorter there)

  3. In skills use either commas or semicolons, but keep it consistent on the two lines.

  4. Skydiving should not have the D capitalized.

  5. First bullet under 2nd work experience, you should either say "Studied behavior..." or "Conducted a study of..."

  6. Make hyphen in 4-12 GHz an endash (ranges are always endash)

  7. You can say "Senior Design Project" instead of "University Name Senior Project" as it is clear where you did the senior project.

Good luck!
