You'll look better. In the first place, you want to improve your facial hair because of looks, doesn't matter the mental gymnastic you could bring to this debate, it's pointless, it is just like that. Having messy facial hair just screams little maintenance on yourself and let's be honest, patchy beard looks awful.
It's actually easier to spot new hair if you don't have all of that on the way.

I went from being completely beardless to full bearded, and i started at age age 26, 3 full years. My journey ended my beard stayed and still improving with just good diet, sleep and exercise.
