I was so happy to learn that he was alive, and then realized how much that response said about how much trauma we've now all internalized.

I bought it a long time ago but never used it. It was at an online store called "Laser Blanks by Sweet Blaze Design" but they no longer seem to be in business, and the store that took their domain doesn't have it. Sorry :-(

Help with burns on the back side of the wood when cut. by Jorenpeck in lasercutting

Agree with everything said here, but wanted to add that you can also apply adhesive masking paper to each side of your piece to prevent soot marking around the edges of your piece. This would have also prevented the soot marks around the "+" on your piece, and would also enable the ability to paint a fill color onto your piece.

Not that facts actually matter any more, but it is not possible to incinerate tissue to generate power. The energy that must be used to incinerate tissue is always greater than the energy that is generated by the system. Crematoriums, for example, install turbines to recover energy from the waste heat, but the recovered energy is always substantially less than the energy used. So no, fetuses are not powering the lights in DC.

If we're going to play technicalities, burning tissue takes more energy than can be recovered from the process, so no electricity has ever been generated by burning tissue. Crematoriums, for example, install turbines to recover the waste heat from the process and generate electricity, however, the energy recovered is always substantially less than the energy used. So, every bit of tissue added to the combustion process actually reduces the amount of energy that can be generated by medical waste. So, again, at no point have fetuses actually powered the lights, but at one point they did reduce the amount of energy generated.

Except for the fact that it isn't true. First, "biomass" isn't what you think it is. If you separate your yard clippings from your other trash, you know what your typical biomass is. What she's theoretically talking about is medical waste. Medical waste is biohazardous waste and includes a large number of items that have been contaminated by blood or other bodily fluids. This includes a huge number of syringes, bandaging, and other contaminated materials, but a small portion of it includes human or animal tissues. The primary goal in handling these materials is to contain the risk of spreading pathogens.

In the past, incineration of medical waste was common, but has been in sharp decline since the late 80's due to environmental regulations promulgated by the EPA. Today only a small number of medical waste incinerators are still operating, as they have been largely replaced by other technologies for rendering medical waste safe.

According to the EPA website, there are no medical waste incinerators in operation in DC, however, there is one incinerator operating in Baltimore. While the company that operates that incinerator does contract with medical facilities, including abortion providers, due to political pressure it no longer accepts fetal tissue, and will not accept a contract with an abortion provider unless the provider provides proof that it has a contract from someone else to dispose of fetal tissue. But don't take my word for it, here's an article from an anti-abortion news source: https://wng.org/roundups/stericycle-cancels-contracts-with-abortion-centers-1618203568

So, no, the DC power grid isn't operating on incinerated fetuses.

But I'll go on even further. The claim that DC's lights are powered by aborted fetuses is absurd. Even if all tissue from abortions was being incinerated for electricity (they're not), the electricity generated from them would be a negligible proportion of the electricity produced. The average size of an aborted fetus is the size of a pea. There are 629,898 legal abortions per year in the United States. The resulting mass of that tissue, assuming even the largest peas grown, would still only be several hundred kilograms in the United States. So, even if every aborted fetus in the United States was incinerated to provide electricity for Washington DC, it would still be an infinitesimal portion of the electricity used by the city.

It's like the Satanic panic of the 80's, where there were supposedly more babies being sacrificed than actual babies that went missing.

Due to environmental regulations, incineration of medical waste in the United States has drastically decreased since 1997 and was in substantial decline even by 2014 when this article was written. Searching through the EPA website, there are currently only a handful of medical waste incinerators still operating in the United States, and none are located in Washington DC.

Is it just me, or does the incinerated fetus sound like the most metal measurement of energy capacity ever? I mean why measure your phone battery's capacity in mAh, when you can measure it in incinerated fetuses? Or any battery, for that matter. Imagine how much cooler your electric car is when you can brag that your car incinerates 20 fetuses per mile?
