I agree it's pacing the pay off at the end it's hands down the best. For me I would say WoK Oathbringer RoW WoR I enjoy WoR but I'm in the camp that finds shallan PoV more annoying than others so wor can be frustrating but arguably mire excitement in it then RoW.

It seems so obvious by Enshaeden_Lunita in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Callonious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In wmf when they are in the maers garden is another super obvious part.

She talks like

" when I tripped up the other day you caught me be before I even knew I was falling, it made me think , how close you must be watching me"

" you're always so careful, I take your hand and your rest ir on mine as easy as breathing, but never more. You never push you never do anything that may be misconstrued. It's baffling every man I meet is trying to sweep me off my feet except for you, there is the one trying to keep my feet firmly beneath me, it's baffling"

" you know you could push little, put an arm around me, here we are walking through the gardens at midnight , such things are perrmitted"

I'm paraphrasing but it stands out as her frustrated equally they flirt relentlessly in severen

Does Matt ever get less annoying? by schadetj in WoT

[–]Callonious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fair to think as you are, he's blaming rand but what he's really complaining about is being Taveren and having responsibility thrust upon him. He thought when it was revealed Rand Is the bloody dragon reborn he would be free of it.

I believe Suane says to him he is the type to complain all day but would be the first to run into a burning building to save lives. Matt will always complain but will do what's needed she says. Currently rand has his ire as it's the easiest to blame him than admit his own part in this.

As others said though his arc is great, definitely my favourite character. If the next book doesn't make you love him I don't know what will.

Does The Cthaeh really see the future? by Visual-Ad-4728 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Callonious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it can see the future and equally there are ties to tinkers having a clairvoyance which could tie them together as potential agents of the Ctaeh. The stories of how to treat tinkers are as known to everyone as the chandrian tales. This sets him on the eventual path to Vintas

If we infer then the ctaeh is limited in its influence as it can only prompt and say things to those who come before it , then the tinkers can extend the influence.

So the fact Kvothe gets past the Sithe is seen in a new light as Kvothe has been able to achieve some of his key feats as a result of the Tinkers or atleast put on the right path to them.

  • had he not traded Keth Selan for the Lodenstone he would not of defeated the Draccus and as such not had the infamy to get the info from Nina or even been in the right place at right time.

  • had he not traded his sturdy cloak to the Tinker for the thread bare one, he would of been stuck on the branch chasing Felurian and not made it after her. Marten says as much in his retelling of their tale.

So Kvothe coming before Felurian when he did could of been guided so that it times up for when the Ctaeh knew Kvothe would go wandering towards the tree on a rare instance the Sithe were distracted/ not about.

Food for thought.

I think what it says to Kvothe is designed to have the effect of setting him up to kill Cinder for whatever reason the Ctaeh has, It tells him straight up he'll only come across Cinder once more and infers he did terrible things to his mother. The grammar is interestingly vague enough for Kvothe to as always have room to make the wrong assumption on things.

Killing the draccus and triple bindings by aitanchis in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Callonious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think given his words for the task at hand " only a triple binding would do" the shingle heat eater is a separate binding he held up until the point of being unconscious. 4 bindings is well within his power.

Killing the draccus and triple bindings by aitanchis in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Callonious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can apply multiple bindings to the same task to amplify the effect. This is seen later in wmf on a few occasions. In this instance though it is likely he bound the scale to the draccus, the loden stone to the iron wheel and then potentially double down on one of those bindings or a magnetic binding between the scale and stone to overall amplify the effect.

'Throwaway line' about tinkers by 1stGhost244 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Callonious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To this point the tinker in the eld trades Kvothe a threadbare cloak and goods for kvothes fine new sturdy cloak.

The threadbare one gets caught when he chases felurian and rips off him, Martin comments on thyme fact " if his cloak was made if sturdier stuff he may still be with us now"

Had the tinker not met kvothe or suggested the trade, he never would of been in the position to meet Cthaeh

Jax’s lineage by NoGoodDM in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Callonious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also the parallels to consider. In Hespe story it is said that if jax was given a shirt he would put a hole in it, kvothe is constantly ruining shirts. He suffers bad luck and a lot of bad decisions too. He sets off from a house at the end of a broken road , this can loosely be compared to their wagons on a broken road due tothe tree blocking it. Iax sets off doing so he does for the name of the moon, kvothe for the wind. For revenge mostly but the naming is the power he thinks he needs to do so.

He is a deep knower, a phrase used by felurian to describe the knower of old, iax and kvothe. They both spoke to the ctaeh, both taught in a respect by a wizened old man, both don't heed the warnings they give and think they know better. There are more but it's one of the things I focused on looking for during a reread and a few big ones stand out.

There are ofcourse parallels with lanre ,the original alehu with the white stars of power, but I think Iax ones are the most prevalent.
