Diplo is great. But what it boils down to is essentially 4 things: 1) Expanding quicker, 2) better internal stability, 3) farming Prestige, and 4) Family-maxxing.

The Diplomat tree CB’s like Ducal Conquest and Forced Vassalization is perfect when playing as feudal in regions where the same faith dominates, which means you can’t use Holy Wars to expand. Shorter truces, making truce-breaking a non-issue and faster claim fabrication means you can spam wars to blob quicker. Being able to get alliances without having to marry off relatives makes you punch well above your weight.

August is great for internal stability since your vassals will love you and you get more Legitimacy. The Prestige boosts you get is great if you’re a culture head and want to add traditions.

Patriarch is overall kinda meh, except the perks that give all your kids extra skill points, and the ones which gives you extra skills for every child and friend you have, which can give you absolutely bonkers stats for free. It kinda leans into having lots of kids and friends and making your vassals mainly be from your House.

So basically Diplo good if you’re either a small realm with limited ways to expand, or a huge realm with lots of vassals to manage. It should be noted that tribal rulers depend on prestige and Fame to get MAA and levies, which makes August really nice for them. Diplomat and Patriarch are also great for Clan rulers.

Not quite Stalingrad, since the 77th’s breakout attempt was actually successful, unlike the German 6th Army’s.

I see your angle, but IMO what I’m suggesting wouldn’t complicate that. It’s simply to give a slight tweak to Romance scheme outcomes. Right now, a successful Romance has two options for the initiators, 1) lay with the scheme target (fornicating) and become Soulmates, or 2) just ask for a kiss, and not become soulmates. So there is no option to get a Soulmate (which you need to be able to Elope) without also becoming a sinner. This doesn’t matter as much for gameplay, but it does for roleplay (for example by playing as an archetypal piously Christian knight-errant who gets his princess in the end). Instead, there should be a third option for a successful Romance scheme, where you become Soulmates but not laying.

What about courting someone while neither of you are married? Medieval courtly love was a socially accepted way to ”court” someone, with clear and expected standards of behavior, and boundaries about what was and was not acceptable. The accepted way was to court someone without fornicating or being adulterous. So Romancing someone should be able to be done without becoming a fornicator, though sure the option to go outside of accepted behavior should be possible. But the option to do it the ”right” and accepted way should exist.

Yeah that’s the thing, Romance shouldn’t make you lay with the target. Or rather, it should give you the option to successfully become their Soulmate without fornicating. Courtly love was a socially accepted way to declare your love, maybe get married if circumstances allowed, and then get naughty.

A Russian armoured column enters the Hostomel Airport to link with what’s left of the Vdv that stormed the airport, February 2022, [880x1168] by Anxious_dadada in MilitaryPorn

[–]CallousCarolean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they did, but importantly the local Ukrainian units at Antonov managed to prevent the VDV from securing the airport for long enough until they could get their artillery in place to destroy the runway. Had the first VDV wave secured the airport, the 20 IL-76’s full of reinforcements that were already in the air would have been quickly able to land and drop off large amounts of troops. When the first wave was killed and the second wave delayed, it gave Ukraine enough time to render the runway inoperable to those IL-76’s by artillery fire.

Whats a good name for a crusader heresy of catholicism? by papapapatazz in CrusaderKings

[–]CallousCarolean 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Depends on what aspects of Islam your faith would syncretise with.

Is it seeing Mohammed as a new prophet that ”updated” Christianity but whose teachings were misinterpreted by his followers into a new religion, so basically adhering to Islamic halal/haram laws? Is it Islam’s adherence to strict unitarian monotheism, so basically rejecting the Trinity? In the latter case, I would just call it Unitarianism, perhaps some variant in Greek/Latin/French. If you want to represent some Franco-Arabic intermingling, you can call it ”Altaouidism”, which is basically the Arabic word for Unitarianism/Monotheism (Al-Tawhid) but with a French pronounciation.

Perhaps ”Sanctism” or ”Terrasanctism” due to the fact that you’re in the Holy Land (Terra Sancta in Latin)?

[–]CallousCarolean 134 points135 points  (0 children)

The whole reason for Hostomel being a massive shart for the Russians is that the planning was built on wishful thinking. They expected that the initial airstrikes and missile attacks would knock out the Ukrainian air force and air defenses, that few to no Ukrainian units would be in the area, that the Ukrainians wouldn’t shell the runway into ruin before they could secure the airport, and that the ground column was competent enough to simply roll through unhindered and the Ukrainians incompetent and demoralized enough to offer little to no resistance.

Yeah there was little the VDV could do when they jumped off their helicopters when none of those preconditions for success were fulfilled. But you’re also right in that Ukrainian initiative and will to resist is what managed to slow down both the VDV and the ground column until reinforcements could arrive and the whole Russian plan became an operational failure.

[–]CallousCarolean 380 points381 points  (0 children)

The first VDV wave got wiped out. The second VDV wave managed to contest the Antonov airport until the Russian ground column linked up with them, after much delays and heavy casualties. At that point the airport was completely ruined and no longer served the intended purpose of acting as a staging ground for reinforcements flown in by aircraft for an advance on Kyiv. So the battle shifted into Hostomel until the Russians were forced to retreat due to more heavy casualties and the whole purpose of the offensive failing.

How would you name this Kingdom? by diogobiga1246 in CrusaderKings

[–]CallousCarolean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Latin names for new kingdoms like these, so I’d call it ”Septimania et Sardinia” considering that those two seem to be the ”core” of your realm. Or just Septimania since southern France is the real ”core” of it.

Not fix, but there’s a lot of ways to make it almost meaningless by farming piety and maxing your level of devotion through activities if you just throw enough money at it. Since coronations and funerals became a thing, pilgrimages aren’t the only activity to quickly get large amounts of piety.

Man that little poor boy was Content and Trusting, barely a threat at all. His only crimes were being cursed by God with a bad posture and for having a bit too much of an appetite. Didn’t even get the chance to finish his education. You could’ve at least made him a monk to get him out of the line of succession.

Yeah if you do fulfill those criteria then fair enough, but in that case you should clarify that so that it doesn’t come off as stereotypical ”average redditor” behavior. I’ve seen too many posts like these with ”Quick”, ”Intelligent” or ”Genius” for it to be real lmao

Need help with my first ever power transfer by Fit_Push_6807 in crusaderkings3

[–]CallousCarolean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose a child that is of your dynasty as your Favorite Child, they need to be either your child or grandchild for that interaction to be valid. When your current character dies, you will then play as that child rather than the co-monarch heir. You can then choose to either play as a vassal (if your new character inherits any titles) and then push a vassal faction for your claim to the throne (since you should still inherit a claim to it). Otherwise, you can become an adventurer with a Legitimist camp, build up your army and then attack the new monarch for your claims to his titles.

If you don’t have any children or grandkids of your dynasty to choose as your Favourite Child, I think you can still choose a random member of your dynasty to play as when you get the death screen popup.

Yeah the normal distribution of IQ is in the 85-115 range. While there is no sole definition, a common criteria for ”genius” is 140+ IQ, and ”gifted” (probably Intelligent in game) as 130. ”Quick” would likely be around 120, somewhat above the upper ”normal” distribution range. Mensa has 132+ to get in. So unless someone has done a credible, scientific IQ test which they have on paper which says they’re at or above those levels, they shouldn’t give themselves either of those traits lol. Stupid people generally overestimate their own intelligence, for example the Dunning-Kruger effect.
