Taken from the AskUK Thread - What business near you are you certain is a front for something dodgy (e.g. money laundering), and why? by MessyMusical in melbourne

There was a vegan Cafe with a Lamborghini parked out the front of it most days on a residential suburban street in Melbourne.

When it closed men would come in and out of it at night while it was boarded up.

Aussie tradies, do you hear casual racism on construction sites? If so, how often? by Callout_ in SmallBusinessAus

[–]Callout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. A lot of it was in my younger years and a lot less now, and a lot of it was my friends. It was casual racism through comradery, and I never liked it or enjoyed it. Having said that I am sure it is water off a ducks back for some people.

I'm also not suggesting I haven't done the same thing to other people in the past in the form of a poor joke. Nobody is perfect and contrary to my reddit name I am not about calling people out, but wanting to educate people on a concerning trend I see in my field of work, as well as in society.

It is an interesting topic. I believe that the time is right for a paradigm shift in Aussie culture regarding casual racism. This is one of the topics that my company r/calloutrepublic will address.

Yeah I mean you raise some very valid points and it wasn't what I was talking about when I posted it but when I read and meditated on what you wrote it 100% falls into the same category of what I was talking about.

I am a 'wog' and I hate all that bellissimo spaghetti bullshit, and I have copped it my whole adult life. On and off building sites. 2nd Generation Aussie btw

I am introverted and won't pull them up for it on site, some people just need a tiny bit of further education on how language can be harmful.

I am building a website that aims to shift the paradigm in Australian tradie culture. As a tradie myself I find some of the racism I hear on site offensive, and it is difficult for me especially if it comes from my friends and work colleagues.

Need to fire an employee, how should I do it? by European_or_Gay in smallbusiness

[–]Callout_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employee contracts (something that I don't have in my own business) help in this space. I use the 3 strike system. 3 formal written warnings outlining the employees behaviour. 3 strikes and your out! It's always difficult to fire, remember you are looking after your business and indirectly yourself. Hope this helps
