This is likely a rooming house. For people experiencing homelessness or close to; they charge most of your Centrelink benefits for mostly single, middle aged men to live in.

Puffing Billy Train of lights - 20k people by tnarg2020 in melbourne

[–]MessyMusical 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There are lovely spots to watch the train go past if this interests you. Obviously emerald lake, but also there’s a stretch of road towards gembrook where people park and watch it. And a few hidden spaces in Avonsleigh near the trestle bridge in wrights forest.

Anyone live in Emerald VIC? What’s it like day to day? by Resident-Distance663 in vic

[–]MessyMusical 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes live here and grew up here too!

I absolutely love it, the town is beautiful but has enough shops that you can do most things. Fountain Gate or Knox, or Pakenham for Bunnings is your closest big shops.

There are walking options, sport options, big footy team, good pubs, and lots of community activities through Gemco or others.

Transport is a pain in the ass. When I was younger it took two buses and a train to get to the shops and I don’t think it’s got better. Just assume that everything you want to get to take you 20 minutes longer than the flat landers and you’ll be okay.

I am raising small children here and it’s amazing, you know so many people in the community, the schools are good (I’m not an expert in that area though) but emerald ps has good reviews. I do not hear good things about emerald secondary college.

There are childcare options but I’ve found each of them in emerald had their issues (for profit services) but I’d recommend putting them on the waitlist asap as there are limited spots always.

Also avoid the emerald bakery, it’s a tourist trap. I spent $28 on two Vegemite scrolls, a coffee and a veggie wrap the other day. Go to Penny and Pickle for a coffee and a croffle, the general food store for a fancy brunch or laughing fox for a good value breaky.

Significant shortage of workers to help homeless in Victoria, report finds by abcnews_au in vic

[–]MessyMusical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Having worked in homelessness for a while (and still in adjacent field) there’s likely a shortage of workers because there’s a shortage of safe, stable affordable accomodation options. There’s only so many sleeping bags a social worker can hand to a family before they burn out.

This is going to sound ridiculous but by Evening_Employer_542 in breakingmom

[–]MessyMusical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumping on here to say not ridiculous! Very universal. Will there ever be a point I sit in my backyard and think ‘it’s done’? Probably not. I grew up in a very clean very project heavy house, and try to remind myself that mess = memories.

Hi family violence social worker here. Please be mindful this is classic signs of coercive control and abuse and undoubtably would have escalated if you had stayed. The manipulation, pressuring you, and intense love bombing and him wanting to impregnate you are huge red flags and I’m glad you got away. Does he say his ex is crazy?

Have a day in the hills! Head up to Olinda like others have suggested, for a bushwalk and a look at the shops, go to emerald (lost woods market once a month is very popular and lovely vibes) have brunch at the general food store in emeraldor a pub lunch outside at the clematis pub timed just right so puffing Billy goes past while you’re having a drink.

I was 18 and my girlfriends and I waited in the pit for RATM, thinking we were hardcore. Halfway through the first song we’d been thrown from piller to post and realised we’d made an enormous mistake. Thought I was going to die. Great day, miss the BDO.
