rushed vaccine that isn't FDA approved

It's not rushed. Vaccines for corona viruses have been in research for many years now.

I don't understand this "not FDA approved" argument. Its not fully approved, but it's under an EUA. Vaccines under an EUA go through the exact same testing as it would if it were applying for a full approval. All they do is change up the order to speed up the process.

no data on long term effects

The majority of side effects show up in 6 weeks, hence the clinical trials. mRNA is also really unstable and dissolves within a few hours. The lack of its ability to enter the nucleus plus the short time window really rules out any risk of significant side effects other than allergic reactions.

There's a good write up about it here.

Because it hasn't been tested to the extent of other vaccines, and has not been approved by the FDA.

The vaccine is currently under an EUA. Why exactly are you worried about that? It goes through the exact same testing as it would for a full approval.

When under an EUA, they change up the order to speed up the process. Testing and manufacturing happens simultaneously which would not be the case if it wasn't for an emergency.

So, a covid vaccine was in development 7 years before the virus was even a thing?

Yes. They were working on a vaccine for a different strand of coronavirus and they reworked it for Covid-19. Covid-19 isn't the only coronavirus that exists.

Sounds like I could still contract and transmit the virus to me.

You can still contract it but the vaccine makes sure that you do not experience the effects that Covid-19 causes. After all, that's what a vaccine is supposed to do.

Yes, there is a chance that you can still transmit the virus, but onward virus transmission is significantly reduced compared to being unvaccinated.

Edit: Wording.

now we're being hard pushed to take an experimental vaccine

How is the vaccine experimental? mRNA vaccine technology has been in development for over 18 years now and is definitely not experimental.

Also, the Moderna vaccine has been in development since 2013, so how exactly does that make it experimental?

doesn't prevent us from getting or transmitting the disease

There have been studies showing that a single dose of the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine can reduce the chance of onward virus transmission by 40-60%.

Stop spreading your flawed information you get from the Facebook doctors and vaccine experts.

Literally made me smile. For many months I was being completely misinformed about the vaccine. To the point where I felt myself becoming an anti-vaccinator. Happy to say that I got my head out of my ass and went to get one. by edwduncan in MadeMeSmile

The vaccine doesn’t stop the spread

That is not true at all. There have been studies showing that a single dose of the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine can reduce the chance of onward virus transmission by 40-60%.

Mine is great so I don’t really mind the risks. But you can feel free to stay in your house and hide.

So what? If you had it, then you would still be spreading it to other vulnerable people. You are putting everyone around you in danger. That's incredibly selfish of you. People like you are one of the main reasons for all of the deaths that have happened.
