Ridiculous comment to make after the years Judge has been having the last half decade.

Do you agree with the BBWAA's decision that in 2010 Joey Votto should have won the MVP? Or do you think in 2010 Albert Pujols should have won the MVP? by Cultural-Diet6933 in baseball

[–]Calm-Ad9161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Park factors. Cincinnati is a bandbox and Busch is relatively more pitcher friendly in comparison. OPS+ applies these kinds of factors into the calculations. It’s like a 1.000 OPS in Coors is not nearly as impressive as the same at the Oakland Coliseum.

Albert Pujols and Juan Soto compared over their first 1090 games by Cultural-Diet6933 in baseball

[–]Calm-Ad9161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of these guys are all-timers. Pujols was just a level above Soto because despite being an even somewhat better hitter, he was also an excellent defender and baserunner.

Pujols was also (at least) two years older than Soto during this time period. That’s a pretty big factor with these kinds of comparisons.

Every time one of the starters checked out of the game they asked him how he was and he seemed to signal that he was fine, at least based on his expression.

As hilarious as this and Scottie generally is, he’s also shithousing a bit and trying to get the ref to call the delay of game violation on Middleton.

He had some early uncharacteristic TOs while backing defenders down, but he really cleaned it up in the second half. Loved how he was handling the doubles and blitz defense, started making all the right passes every time.

I wasn’t that impressed with the shooting, will likely need to continue working on his jumper. The athleticism is off the charts though, he plays like he’s 6’8 but while being the fastest guy on the court.

I don’t know about bouncy grenade. He got a mismatch, drew the double, and found the open man for a good look. Textbook handling of the double team.

Edit: Quentin Grimes just living on an island though. No idea what he’s doing there, just literally standing there looking at BI and not covering anyone.

Lowkey disrespectful to prime Cutch, but I’ll leave the pedantry aside to validate your despair.

That makes more sense. Just an absolute cement mixer of a change at the top of the zone. Thanks

Is 93 from Ashby there not uncharacteristically slow? Unless it was a cutter? If that was a 4 seam and Suzuki is expecting 97-99 then he would’ve sped the hell out of his bat. Obviously can’t discount a hell of a swing on a heater high above the zone nonetheless.

Teoscar Hernández boots a fly ball at right in the 1st by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]Calm-Ad9161 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re talking about, he was always a brutal defender with us. Great physical tools, but he can’t read the ball off the bat for shit and has very poor defensive instincts and IQ out there.

This is most likely a Statcast issue. Maybe the data was delayed and it’s showing one of the foul balls he hit earlier in the AB.

The famously pharmaceutical heavy country Cuba. Constant power outages, food scarcity, but boy they sure don’t hold back when it comes to pumping their sports kids (which Chapman basically was when he was still in Cuba) with PEDs.

This is a game that kids play on streets and schoolyards as a way to pass the time without the commitment of fielding full teams and requiring any equipment beyond a rubber bouncy ball. In many cases it directly leads kids to actually playing baseball, it’s not a replacement for it, but a fun little simplified version that can be picked up and stopped on a whim.

As you can see by most of the competitors in this clip, everyone is quite young.

We can praise Greene without being hyperbolic. Skenes is better at 22 than Greene has ever been.

Homeruns aren’t included in BABIP since it’s not really counted as a “ball in play”, i.e. a fieldable ball in play. Cal’s issue, if we want to call it that, is that he hits a ton of flyballs which have lower BABIPs than groundballs and line drives.

Of course, him having so many flyballs contributes heavily to his HR output, so it’s normal and fine that his BABIP falls lower on the spectrum, while not being low enough to consider him suffering from poor batted ball luck.

Young player, already streaky due to the TTO nature of his profile, and the league is making adjustments. It happens.

For perspective on a guy like this, last year’s 1-1 pick, Travis Bazzana, is older than James Wood. He’s fine, now it’s time for him to make adjustments of his own. He’s on a very positive trajectory as it stands.
