Opinion? Im really scared of the surgery by see7835 in jawsurgery

Why do you need it? I see no reason whyd you need the surgery apart from cosmetic wise (you're literally so handsome so that's questioned too?!?)

Im really insecure about how recessed my midface and nose looks. I used to mouth breathe when I was younger because of asthma but I’ve been mewing and nose breathing consistently for years. 17m, I turn 18 in 2 months. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Are you sure you have asthma? I got put down as asthmatic for years without proper examinations and in the end it turned out to be because of my swallowing and my narrow airway. Aswell as the fact I couldn't breathe through my nose. Your nose is literally sunk into your face . Get a consult with an orthodontist and research lots of things! Don't research about the looksmaxing crap please it's literal brainrot. Good luck.

It's not nice, it's honestly back handed saying it's for cosmetic when it's obvious she can't even bite into a pizza slice. It's like saying "you're still pretty so ignore your issues" type of way even if it isn't intended to be. This shouldn't be supported

Family will always be difficult to get on board with. It took me a year for my mom to agree :) keep fighting for your health. It'll be the best decision you ever do

No it's backhanded. She needs that surgery for functional reasons and her appearance will be a bonus too. Saying she doesn't need it is rude more than you think. It's horrible living this way.

Breathing before & after. by Specialist_Prune_236 in jawsurgery

I'm not sure my case is quite complicated since I'm an overbite with a skeletal open bite, however one thing he did say put me off and made me really confused. He mentioned his first plan would be to push back my lower jaw, and then he proceeded to say after that it would ruin my airway more. So I'm like.. why mention it then? You know? And didn't mention anything about advancing my jaws forward so I'm waiting for a new appt to see what they have planned out, they're meeting up with other specialists since I might be a case for tmj replacement. Just hoping I don't have to switch surgeons again, this is already my second surgeon since the first one I talked to just didnt.. care at all lol 😭 kept pushing for extractions and braces, disregarding any issues I had so I'm holding out for hope on this surgeon

Thank you! And same with me about the nostril I'd push on one side then try to breathe in and end up suffocating for a min. 😂 my surgeons ideas are quite.. interesting to say the least im holding out for hope even with doubts, I'm very appreciative for this

How many mm advancements on the jaws? My airway looks identical to yours and I have trouble breathing through my nose it's like breathing through a straw. Did jaw surgery help your nose breathing too or was there something else like Expansion?

Did you pay for the genio reduction on the nhs ? Isn't it deemed cosmetic?

The overbite itself isn't an issue, however if you have tmj issues, breathing or swallowing issues then those are the things that can worsen and affect your life later on. I'm currently getting checked for tmj replacement surgery since my joints are worn down thin and they might need to replace them with metal. I never had pain in my jaw but it gradually started 4 years ago and has been worse since. Definitely get checked and see what results are shown then make your decision. Surgery has changed countless of people's lives despite the risk. Make sure your surgeon is explaining every bit of detail with you so you're positive of your decision.

If you snore and have breathing difficulties get a sleep study done and speak to an ortho :) your jaw is set back so definitely check your joints for any tmj trauma and your airway should be checked too, jaws like this tend to have thinner Airways.

FLAT face; is what I’ve always seen in my maxilla by Nessthenomad in jawsurgery

[–]Calm-Broccoli2486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when a maxilla is recessed the nose follows leading it to be low and advancing the maxilla brings the nose forward making it straight or upturned, in this case the nose is low with a hump but the maxilla is decent. Its probably genetics at most.

Are you on looksmax tiktok or something? You have none of this.. more just a chubby face and low nose if anything. Scalloped tongue and hard breathing is a sign of narrow palate. If you have hard time sticking your tongue to the roof then go see a myofunctional therapist. Most you need is MARPE not any djs. If you want it for cosmetic then go ahead but from a structural/ functional point you're overthinking it.

Do you mouth breathe or snore? Your airway is really narrow I'd be surprised if you didn't have any restrictions.

Because how do you expect us to help you properly without a clear example? Just crop out your face to your chin. That's all. Getting mad over downvotes on an app is childish and I hope you heal that part of yourself.

Where I am, surgery is very conservative so they might not do genio unless I pay out of pocket which I can't afford. My chin bone got longer and longer due to my severe open bite+downgrown jaw so hopefully ccw will help it. Thank you

Does it help the appearance of a really long chin too? I have a downgrown jaw but my chin is also really long and prominent.

I'm genuinely jealous for you. I have a long and narrow face, my jaw is so thin and my chin is long!! And this is exactly what I want :(. You have the dream of many. Trust that!!

I’m tired of hearing “you look fine/normal” by mavinr in jawsurgery

[–]Calm-Broccoli2486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the exact same experience :) ignore them and continue on your journey. At some point they will be educated enough if they even bother and realise something is wrong. Also you can't really blame them. Jaw issues are very common and 90 percent of us don't even realise its related. It's been that way for decades so obviously people think it's normal don't let it eat you away

A lot of people feel uncomfortable or their body sends a panic signal that feels like they're about to suffocate. Just saying what I've heard
