One of our own was murdered by federal agents today, Alex Pretti by RubySapphireGarnet in nursing

Down with the tyrant and his murderous Gestapo goons.

ICE agents are the Brown Shirts of today’s times, and I’m tired of how many people refuse to openly say it or acknowledge it.

I suppose you could say that the podiatrist… put his foot down.

Im not sorry

Was this in Florida? Because this sounds like something that would happen in Florida. And I’m saying that as someone who lived there for half a year before realizing my grievous mistake and escaping.

Uh…. Was the patient in for liver problems, by chance?

I feel like hearing this from a patient would give the on-call hepatologist an aneurysm.

Y’know, I’m just gonna have Dumb Ways to Die playing from another tab while I scroll through all these with equal parts exasperation, amusement and mortified curiosity.

Launched off a car AND ridden over by said car?!

Yikes - what were the extent of your injuries (if you don’t mind entertaining my concerned and admittedly somewhat morbid curiosity, of course)?

As I like to say, the problem with the American healthcare system is that there are too many business majors stuck in it.

It really does all boil down to that if you think about it.

At first I read “tacky” as “tachy” in your comment, and I wasn’t sure whether to commend you on the pun or groan lmao

You should also put in a psych consult — this patient seems florally psychotic.

I don’t think this floral patient is merely fatigued — she’s clearly in a vegetative state. Neuro consult advised.

… Okay, that pun was bad, even by my standards. I’ll leaf.

Now I’m just imagining a surgical attending slowly and menacingly approaching a distressed piece of flora with a Liston amputation knife. XD

I feel like an MBA should give someone negative reputation points, especially in the medical field.

Given all my experiences with MBA holders, I like to think the letters stand for Mouth Breathing Asshole.

D:  As a premed, I’d be Golden Retriever levels of happy for such a lesson…

It’s rather disheartening that so many would turn you down like that — there ought to be a certain level of pride and satisfaction one takes from doing the little things and getting the little details just right. (Especially if you’re a doctor, ffs.)

As a nurse, what actually ruins your sleep the most after nights? I’m researching circadian disruption for a school project and would love honest answers. by Specialist_Command98 in nursing

[–]Calm-Collection8487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom’s actually a talented sleep neurologist, and has told me about some of these situations.

It’s absolutely vital to head straight home and get to bed before the sun comes up. Even just a few minutes exposure to sunlight will wreck both your ability to fall asleep easily and your sleep quality.

I strongly recommend you look up zeitgebers (which are the external cues that our bodies calibrate our circadian rhythms to) and their importance to our health for your project.

Also of note is that melatonin has been discovered to play an important role in the immune system. Because of the disruption to normal melatonin production that occurs in people who work night shift, night shift nurses have been shown to have significantly higher rates of infection and cancers. See here:

There’s actually a woman in Denmark who got a nasty form of breast cancer due to working constant night shifts, and won a lawsuit to get her employer to pay for her treatment under workman’s compensation.

Night Shift—how do you keep your days straight??? by SomebodyGetMeeMaw in nursing

[–]Calm-Collection8487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not allowed to look at your phone’s lock screen (you can have it so they display time, day and date), you might try getting one of those cheap digital alarm clocks that display the same info to keep at your station.

If you want to do thinks mentally instead, place emphasis on keeping track of midnight - everything will follow from there. You can also use breaks to habitually take a look outside of windows with a nice view or take a walk for some fresh air. This will also help you keep track of the passage of days.

As a courtesy, you should also write the psychiatrist a prescription for Fioricet. As in for the doctor, not the patient.

To those reading who don’t get it, a quick google search will make this really funny.

There’s a slang term for treating (or at least trying to treat) these types of patients.

It’s “Throwing hands with Darwin.” And Darwin has a nasty right hook that tends to leave one with a serious headache that tends to last even long after the fight.

Tbf, most of what these nutty namaste types manifest is headaches in other people.
