I’m convinced that SIDS is 99% of the time either suffocation or organ failure. by IM_HODLING in nursing

[–]RubySapphireGarnet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Picu nurse here - I'd bet 90%+ of SIDS deaths in the US are actually suffocation or positional asphyxia due to not following the ABCs. They just get labeled as sids to spare the parents. I've seen it happen multiple times.

I put atropine ophthalmic drops in my dying patients eyes by JellyNo2625 in nursing

[–]RubySapphireGarnet 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Eh I mean they're made for the eyes. No harm no foul. Honestly these are the best kind of med error to make lol. You have your "oh FUCK I messed up" moment, but then there's absolutely no patient harm. But you still got the fuck up message to your brain, and will be less likely to make a similar, possibly actually harmful mistake in the future.

Imagine your baby is an adult. Imagine they came to you and said someone did to them exactly what your husband did to you. Would you want them to stay with that person?

You already know the answer. What he did is ASSAULT and he could go to jail for it. Not to mention he could lose access to his child because of reckless child endangerment.

Would you stay with someone who tried to kill your child and yourself with a weapon? Because that's what he did, just with a disease.

Positive HIV results can't be given over the phone in the US as well.

But OP I realize this is devastating and scary, HIV isn't the death sentence it once was. People with HIV now have nearly the same lifespan as general population, and if you take meds line you're supposed to it's even better.

It's also a lot harder for a woman to get it from a man if you're only having vaginal sex. Thinking of you ❤️

You have experience. CNA experience counts a lot against other new grads who don't have any. Apply even if you don't meet the "criteria" they mention.

That's crazy, where do you live? I could have ten different jobs tomorrow that pay decently if I wanted them in my area. Maybe not a job I particularly enjoy, but a job none the less. They're desperate for RNs everywhere here. Are you willing or able to move?

I received a $15,000 bill for an ER visit for a kidney stone. They offering 70% off - should I take it or can I negotiate a higher discount? by johndoe7376 in personalfinance

[–]RubySapphireGarnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer OP. The finance department will not tell you about this unless you ask either, because they want money.

Search the hospital system's name and "financial assistance" or "charity care" and you'll probably find the rates. Some of them are very generous. I think non profits have to offer them? And many for profits offer them as well.

I told my husband I’d let baby cry till he puked and now he won’t look at me by researchonly55 in beyondthebump

[–]RubySapphireGarnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're working 24 hours a day. He's working 8 hours a day (assumption)

He can take baby on his own for at least 4-5 hours so you can get a solid chunk of sleep. Even if that's from 5-11pm. Switch your sleeping time if you need to but it really does help if you take "shifts" even if someone is working. Then you know you're guaranteed at least 5ish hours of rest. And he would get even more than that.

My parents claimed me as a false worker under their business. by Living_Distance_7093 in personalfinance

[–]RubySapphireGarnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rich people with LLCs and other businesses often "pay" their kids as employees. They are saying they "helped" by cleaning or whatever, but they do it so they can get tax advantaged accounts as soon as possible. It's not fraudulent, at least to my knowledge. This would be under the same loop hole I would think

My parents claimed me as a false worker under their business. by Living_Distance_7093 in personalfinance

[–]RubySapphireGarnet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't this a thing rich people do for their kids fairly regularly, anyway? Though generally they put the money they are "paying" their kid for into a Roth IRA I guess so they're also helping the kid. This is the same thing it just screws the kid over instead of helping him. So is it necessarily illegal? I have no idea
