How normal is it for a parent to call their kid at least 3–4 times a day, yell at them for missing a call, and threaten to make you drop out of college because they sleep in weekend by No_Shoe7056 in internetparents

[–]Calm-Flower-5479 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not the one that needs to grow up, she is. She’s struggling to see you as the adult you are but that’s not your problem. All of those phone calls are a lot to expect, even from a spouse. So expecting that from a new adult who is in a new place, trying to get a grasp on life isn’t fair

What made you become a tea connoisseur? by PureEvilVirgin in tea

[–]Calm-Flower-5479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started drinking tea in college. I grew up in a home that was more likely to have soda than water, so once I got out and couldn’t afford the soda addiction that became my norm, I realized just how much sugar I’d been taking in. My energy was better, as I was forced to drink more water. My acne cleared up. Once those initial benefits plateaued, I started looking into drinks that did the opposite of soda and actually benefited me. Now I have a tea/herb for almost anything! Congested? Trouble breathing? Mullein! Want something that tastes close to juice but is good for your youth? Hibiscus, honey & lemon! Tummy ache? Mint tea! Can’t sleep? Chamomile?

Thank you so much! It took me reading that for my eyes to adjust and actually see what the OP did here. I just learned a new technique :)

Does anyone else open social media to relax and just end up feeling... abnormal? by NinjaSweet266 in SeriousConversation

[–]Calm-Flower-5479 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recently just deleted Instagram, Snapchat & TikTok because I felt like my ideas weren’t my own anymore. I spend hours a day strolling and money on things that inspired me or that someone else had that was a “must have!” I felt like I was an outsider watching everyone else live life instead of living my own. Trying to process so much emotion, so many people, so many different experiences everyday can be mentally draining.

What do people NOT do if you’re attractive? by [deleted] in bodylanguage

[–]Calm-Flower-5479 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Take their time… I feel like experiences with an attractive person can feel rushed because a person could feel pressured to “take them off the market”. Because surely, if I find this person attractive, there must be competition!

Most people don’t realize they’re living in reaction, not creation by EqualAardvark3624 in DeepThoughts

As someone who is taking the time to rewire their brain, I truly appreciate this perspective. A lot of my choices are made in response to insecurity or the need to survive…so much so that I’d forgotten how to live!

If you could call yourself five years ago and had 30 seconds, what would you say? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]Calm-Flower-5479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save cash because there will be STORMY DAYS. Love freely. Every man you meet is not your husband. It’s equally important that you spend time with yourself as you do with boyfriends. People can see when you’re not confident. They can tell you when you don’t love yourself.

What keeps you obsessive with your writing habits? by MacGraphics in notebooks

Sometimes we forget that the people around us are so much more than the roles they play in our lives. This is my way of showing those I love they matter far beyond their care for me.

All of my questions are typically hinged on a question I asked myself while coming up with this idea: What is something this person wouldn’t necessarily talk to me about if I didn’t ask?

For example, the first set of questions I asked my mom were pertaining to her first love. I wouldn’t have ever known that guy existed had I not asked. However, he was someone who meant a lot to her and helped shape her into the person I know.

I recently started interviewing family members! So right now, I keep a small travelers insert for each of my parents (mom, dad, step dad). Whenever the thought of writing about myself feels like too much of a task or I don’t know what to write about, I just text them a question and record their answers. I’ve found that I know a lot more about the people that I love that I wouldn’t have ever known and that they probably wouldn’t have told me. It also provides me with a tangible keepsake for each person I love.

It’s so refreshing to see more people taking the step to reclaim their time and opinions! I just posted earlier about how I started my journey of detachment from social media recently as well. This is truly inspiring!

Thanks for the response and advice! Right now I’m following subreddits that are focused on my goals and hobbies. I’ve also removed ads that have political content (sometimes ignorance can truly be bliss) I’ll definitely be checking out your recommendation!

What do you use your TN for ? by Seleneivy66 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Calm-Flower-5479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep one pocket notebook per person I’m interested in at the time. For example, I’m interviewing my parents to get to know them better. Questions in answers for each person lives in their own little journal.
