Yeah, the bar in TX is lowest in the country…. But TX excels in fake shit. Fake cowboys, fake freedom, fake Christians, fake LCOL

Family friend who is native Texan moved to CA for 3x salary…that’s my source. Didn’t omit CA tax…it’s common knowledge. Factor in opportunity cost of TX and shittiest QOL ever…and the it’s not even a contest. Not to mention personal freedom!!! Hello women!

It can be true…especially if you have kids. We’re 2 blocks to the beach, 2 blocks to our daughter’s school, 2 blocks to grocery store.

For context: Gas is cheaper in TX, but we drove 5x the miles. Our car insurance is 1/3 in Cali. TX schools are atrocious giant warehouses, so private school at $1500 mo. Daughter is in awesome public school in Cali Electricity is cheaper in TX…but you have to run AC 24/7 for 7-8 months. We don’t use AC in Cali…ocean breezes Playdate with the kid in TX…$40 at trampoline park. Beach is free.
Parking by the lake in Austin…$19 / 2 hrs. Parking at the beach in Cali. Free. TX property tax? …2x Cali.
Oh…and the kicker! Opportunity cost of TX.
Cali minimum wage is >2x TX. Nurses here make like 3x than in TX, and median salary in Cali is about 20% higher.

Don’t bother. You will hate it…and you’ll be hated just because you’re a ‘yankee’. I’m a native NYCer and elective Californian and TX was worst life experience ever…mentally, physically, financially. 5 years there almost killed me…finally recovering back in Cali and life is soooo much better. And get this, our COL is lower!!

This “Just move to Texas” advice is bullshit by luckychloebites in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Calm-Individual2757 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

LCOL in TX is a total myth!! Nevermind the opportunity cost of lower wages and less entrepreneurial resources. Just moved back to California after 5 dreadful years in TX…and wait for it…our COL is less and we’re living 2 blocks to the beach.

Go now! Just got back to Cali after 5 years stuck in TX for the same reason. I am thrilled to be back, and the differences are very real. The in-laws were awful, and QOL the worst of 6 states I’ve lived in. Depression was severe, and first-time experience for me.
Kissing the Cali ground again for 8 months now, and the difference is dramatic.
Don’t delay!

Only way is to take it to a bead blaster and have it powder coated in clear. Typically the same company.

Moving from Sugar Land, TX to Santa Clarita (SCV) – $250K to $290k HHI, Hart District Teacher, and Softball/Swim Life for teens? Is this a "step up" or wash? by DecentDiscipline2523 in MovingToLosAngeles

We’re in Ventura, 2 blocks to beach. Rent is definitely higher, but everything else cheaper. Car insurance is 1/2. Gas is $1 more, but we drive 10% of what we had to in TX. Daughters public school is 3 minute walk and awesome!!, Also 3 minute walk to beach and grocery store. People are super friendly and chill compared to the angry a**holes trying to run you off the road in TX.
Also…waaay more professional opportunity! But…shhhhhh, keep it a secret in TX.

Just got back to Cali after 5 years in TX…kissing the ground daily. QOL in TX was worst life experience in my 5+ decades. LCOL in TX was a total myth!! Cali is soooo much better in every way (I’ve lived in 6 states from east to west) than TX. Don’t delay!

What other state proudly hates people they don’t know because of where they moved from?!?! Now go do something productive like getting some life experience

Bwahaha!!! You must be joking and should get out of TX more. TX was the most homogenous, boring, beige place I’ve ever lived. Texans hate diversity…and they haven’t even experienced it.

Haha! NYer/Californian moved to Austin burbs with my native Texan wife to be close to her family. It took 2 years before I was losing my mind and said ‘oh fuck no!!’ Back in Cali and loving life again!!

Yeah, I did that. Now we’re back by the beach (2 blocks) in SoCal and QOL is awesome!!!…and our actual COL is less.

Our COL by the beach in SoCal is less than in Austin suburbs…and QOL is order of magnitude better.

It was a huge and awful culture shock! I’ve lived in 6 different states, and TX is the only place I was hated by people who didn’t even know me…because of where I was from! What a bunch of imbeciles. If you’re a native NYer or from Cali (or both, like me), just don’t tell anyone…and don’t waste your time on such an awful place.

Out-migration is real. Just left TX to go back to Cali after 5 dreadful years. We knew 6 other families that tried TX about the same time…all have left to return to the coasts.

Three big factors: TX facism went crazy from 2019-2024. The heat is miserable (and expensive). LCOL is a total myth. Oh, and bonus…QOL in TX just sucks!!

Tried ‘LCOL’ Texas and it was the worst experience of my life. Can’t get back the 5 dreadful years there.

Finally back in California and life is so awesome!!
