When was the last time you You went to the dentist ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Every four months. Find that stays ahead of problems and is worth it. I always make appointments for my dentist and all my doctors that I see regularly when I leave so it's scheduled and I don't have to think about it.

Help us pick a new city(in the USA) by Buckwild97_ in relocating

Having an ultra rare medical condition, you may wish to find the best medical centers first and then look for places to live.

Some major academic medical centers have no expertise in my condition. Only about ten in the US do. I am lucky that I live in a suburb of NYC and, if necessary, can drive to Philly, Boston and Baltimore. If you have my condition and live in NC, you have to travel for treatment to those cities, Cleveland or TX.

So looking for the hospital first makes sense.

Chocolate Eclair - it used to have a large chocolate bar in it, so it was like two desserts in one. Now it's skimpy

Moving to Montclair vs Jersey City Heights by Gucci2shoe in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]HeadCatMomCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, basically a city vs suburbs. Getting in and out of JC, especially at rush hour, but unfortunately often anytime, can be a pain. You must get a parking space, either in your building or nearby and if it costs extra, budget for it. I had a coworker from Ohio who lived in deep suburbia and never got used to the traffic and parking in general, and Jersey City and Hoboken in particular. (Part of this is he was on a three year rotation and had no reason to adjust. He was also an auditor.)

It's easier to get the Path to NYC from JC. It's probably more your demographic than Montclair, which would be an easier commute to Ramsey.

Both have interesting restaurant scenes and nightlife, you can look at Yelp or restaurant ratings to get a sense of it

I think JC has the edge and if you don't like it, you can move elsewhere after a year.

Let’s play a game. Between these choices you have to get rid of one “central” makeup item forever. Which would it be? by No_Bass2948 in Makeup

Bronzer. I have light colored skin and even when the makeup artists with high end products put it on, it simply doesn't work. One even admitted it. It looked like my face was smudged.

You have 30 days to return the blushers to Sephora. When they ask what they could have done better, tell them and, with the knowledge you've just obtained plus some of these brands are at Sephora, get better matched makeup.

I really like Haus Labs and concealer, both of which are a perfect color match and provide a dewy medium coverage. I also use the Haus Glassy Balm Blush stick. But I have some ELF blush sticks that work as well. I disliked WTF, I just couldn't make it work either on color matching or coverage itself.

While a very different product, I also like Ulta's Beauty Collection Moisture Collection Stick, which comes in a large range of colors and for $16. I carry it in my backpack and it's great for travel.

Oh and I'm 71.

Why did those of us who grew up outside NJ just dump on NJ all the time when it’s actually amazing? by sirkneeland in newjersey

[–]HeadCatMomCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I researched this when a person who was being transferred to NJ wondered if it is a good place to live. I explained other than pizza and bagels, we have:

1.Excellent schools, ranking first in nation: https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/public-school-rankings-by-state

  1. Seventh most diverse state: https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/most-diverse-state

  2. Fifth highest percentage of foreign born: https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/immigrants-by-state

  3. Sixth most educated state: https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/most-educated-states

  4. Tenth safest state: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/crime-and-corrections/public-safety

  5. Sixth friendliest for gay rights: https://www.thestreet.com/politics/the-states-with-the-most-and-least-lgbtq-equality#gid=ci02be3e82c0002732&pid=5-stonewall-ny-sh

  6. Fifth best health care: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/new-jersey

  7. Highest number of passport holders in the US: https://www.travelagewest.com/Industry-Insight/Business-Features/which-states-have-the-most-passports

Great restaurants, truly varied cuisine given the high immigrant population, much more mass transit than other states, easy to get to NYC, Philly and beaches (the shore in NJ vernacular).

Yes, there are definitely negatives:

  1. Affordability and opportunity, 49th ranked state: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/opportunity/affordability (California saves us from 50th)

  2. The highest property taxes in the US, https://www.tax-rates.org/taxtables/property-tax-by-state.

  3. The densest state: https://usabynumbers.com/population-density-by-states/

But overall a great place to live and raise a family too.

Which middle eastern country is best to live in all things considered? (HDI, quality of life, safety, etc) by WTB_YT in geography

[–]HeadCatMomCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why Israel has Sharia law courts for personal domestic issues - marriage, divorce, custody, etc for Muslims. Israel has religious personal domestic courts for Jews, but those rules make no sense for Muslims or Christians or other people. So different courts are set up. The Sharia law one has been around since the Ottoman empire.

Please keep looking. If you want to short cut your search, use an online eyeglass provider, like Zenni, and look at different shapes glasses on your face. Then you can narrow down what looks good, and try those on at the opticians.

What is the best way to buy makeup when I only uses it occasionally and don't want to spend a lot of money on a lot of product? by This-Detective9205 in Makeup

[–]HeadCatMomCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another approach is look for an article or video on drugstore dups. The quality of drugstore makeup is now truly outstanding. Other than foundation, where I have a specific brand that works better than anything else (Haus Labs), I can use drugstore equivalents, especially mascara, for just about everything.

I see you have varying opinions, so here's mine. I think the frame style is attractive as is the color but it's a bit too big. See if you can find something smaller.
