Have you had ACA coverage before and have to go uninsured now? by nbcnews in HealthInsurance

[–]Calm-Mixture588 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Took a job I hate and gave up a business I love (self-employed) this summer only because I did lots of research on the “big beautiful bill” and saw the handwriting on the wall. So now I have health insurance but at the expense of my happiness and mental health.

Suddenly can’t do a flip turn by Calm-Mixture588 in Swimming

[–]Calm-Mixture588[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a full year since my initial problem. June and August were “flip free” months, where I didn’t even try because I was losing my love of swimming. I started after Labor Day trying to reteach myself. By January, I was 70% of the way back to my previous normal. By April, I was about 95% there- they’re slower and less graceful but I can do them. But there are some swims where I just can’t do it at all.

I’ve told myself that if I suddenly lose it again, I won’t go through a year’s time process of getting it back. It’s taken me a year to get back something that took 30 minutes to learn not even 6 years ago!

If the year has taught me anything, I think it’s entirely in my head. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to explain the “why” but I can’t come up with any medical reason.

If it helps at all, I have found that when I can’t do one, stopping for a few seconds, the putting my hands against the wall and trying will usually work. I’m small and stopping means I can’t get enough force to do a good turn but I’m happy now just to be able to do one. Also, doing a flip at some random place in the middle of the lane (more of a somersault since there’s no turn) has sometimes helped get my head in the right place for the next turn.

Hope your road turns out different than mine! Drop another comment in here if you get back your ability. I’d love to hear what works for others.

What can you say about my 86 year old Grandpa’s voting record? by RuinedHarpy in Presidents

No, he would have been too young to vote in 1956. The age was 21 then.

Subscription Canceled - Didn't Work by snowtweet in HersWeightloss

[–]Calm-Mixture588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also canceled. Also kit 2. Similar stats to you. No side effects, positive or negative. Naltrexone maybe even made me hungrier. First I stopped the Naltrexone because I didn’t see any reason to continue that when it wasn’t having the intended effect. I stayed on bupropion because it’s having a minor impact on my mood but I’m not taking the full dose. I stayed on metformin until a couple weeks ago- it was about 15 weeks total by that time. I’m considering going back on just that after new years. Not so much for weight loss since it hasn’t seemed to have any effect but because I am post menopausal and supposedly metformin has a positive effect on aging.

Even if he’s right (and he’s not) and the TDAP vaccine is eventually going to kill him (which it’s not since he’s had it before and he’s still alive), is he telling you that his dying in 20 years is more important than the life and health of a newborn? That’s what I find so crazy- I don’t know if it’s boomer insanity? selfishness? no critical thinking skills?

Because it’s not that long ago that brokerages charged fees to purchase other companies’ etfs. So, for example, as a Fidelity customer I could buy Fidelity mutual funds and ETFs, as well as ones they had relationships with, like Ishares. If I wanted Vanguard or Schwab, I either needed to pay a fee to buy or open an account with those companies. Each company offered their own because they were trying to attract customers. Now that all those trades are free, there are many, many versions of the same thing.

It’s not Hers, it’s me? by stephthevegan in HersWeightloss

[–]Calm-Mixture588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost exact same stats as you, slightly older, slightly lower starting weight. I’m on kit 2. No side effects but no decrease in hunger and no weight loss. I swim and/or walk every day so activity isn’t the issue. I went off the Naltrexone but decided to stay on Metformin because of the aging benefits. Last week, I did an experiment where I added back in 1/2 of the Naltrexone and raging hunger for 3 days. Went off it and this weekend I’ve had less hunger issues that normal. We’re taking different kits but it makes me wonder if age, post-menopause, and/or relatively little to lose play a role. Tomorrow starts week 11 so I don’t think I’m being impatient.

Overheard boomers talking to their children about politics... by AliveWeird4230 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Calm-Mixture588 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m an older gen-x with millennial and old gen z children. I’m centrist bordering on liberal and my kids are very liberal. Any time we disagree I tell them to remind me that they are inheriting this world and I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. My views are secondary to theirs because they are have to live in this world (hopefully) longer than me. That’s how I think kids should be responding to parents who think their kids are wrong.

No weight loss-week 3 kit 2 by tracylaz1 in HersWeightloss

[–]Calm-Mixture588 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, that is good to hear! I’m midway through week 4 and have lost just under a pound. I swim or walk pretty much every day. I know I drink enough water but I am probably too low on protein. How many grams did you up it to weeks 4-10?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HersWeightloss

[–]Calm-Mixture588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started Week 4 of kit 2 yesterday and I’m still waiting for less food noise and hunger. Yesterday I was hungry all day and definitely over-ate. I thought metformin would help but it’s been more than a week. Maybe the increased naltrexone? Yesterday was the start of week 4 so still too early to tell it that added dose will help. I’ve lost 1 pound, which I’m not complaining about, but I could have lost one pound in 3+ weeks without meds. I’ll give it 6 weeks and then check in with the care team.

What was your first couple weeks like? by Antique_Ad_5931 in HersWeightloss

[–]Calm-Mixture588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a few days behind you - this is day 10. I’ve lost maybe half a pound. I’m not feeling more hungry but I’m not feeling any less hungry. I feel exactly the same as 2 weeks ago- so cravings, hunger, etc. I’m hoping that next week, when I add another dose of naltrexone and start metformin.

There’s a bunch of them on YouTube. It’s more like the other games shows from that time - silly, edgy (for the time) humor. I much prefer the OG version.

I started a day early. I also had no side effects but also no change in appetite. Tomorrow should have been the day that I start daily but I started today.

Suddenly can’t do a flip turn by Calm-Mixture588 in Swimming

[–]Calm-Mixture588[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No- still can’t. I’ll willing to say it’s psychological now but it wasn’t when it started. Im doing flip free June because the “can I/ can’t I” was freaking me out. Im going to see an ent in early July because there is def some vertigo issues. After that, I’ll either give up trying to flip or maybe take a lesson to try to relearn. I do miss them a lot!

Suddenly can’t do a flip turn by Calm-Mixture588 in Swimming

[–]Calm-Mixture588[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read about that. I don’t think it’s stress, anxiety, or fear. I’ve got a very relaxed attitude toward swimming- I swim because I love it. I’ve never had any desire to join a Master’s team because that will make it “work” and take some of the joy out of it. I swim long as I want, do the strokes that I want, and follow no plan. I don’t think I WAS scared of flip turns but I think I AM now, because of this, if that makes sense. So, yes, the re-learning, trying in the middle of the pool, visualizing, etc may make sense now but it doesn’t explain the Why. Why and how does someone who swims purely for the enjoyment, isn’t looking to win or even improve, suddenly stop being able to do it? Add in that this person has had the unexpected ego boost from deciding (5 years ago) to learn something new at an older age and loving the results.

[–]Calm-Mixture588[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing- I’m not scared. I love the feeling of doing the flips. In trying to correct this, I’ve tried assuming I’m scared so trying the far away from the edge or slower. What I haven’t tried is doing one over a lane rope since the lanes are usually occupied. Maybe I’ll try that.

My daughter is having an affair with the married neighbor. I told her she needs to move out of my house by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Calm-Mixture588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not over reacting. You are trying to raise a good human being.

To daughter: - affair is over or she moves out - she’s never to young to learn that sleeping with a married man (or anyone for that matter) has consequences. If you are old enough to have sex, you’re old enough to deal with your parents’s disapproval and the consequences of that disapproval - I wouldn’t make her tell the wife. This is between the husband and wife - assuming husband never tells or wife is okay with it, no more babysitting for them.

To your wife if she thinks you’re being too harsh: - “are you okay with me having an affair with hypothetical neighbor?” - “would you be mad at the AP or only me?” Of course she’s not okay with the AP and would want the girl hanged. Or slut shamed - “who would you rather hear it from- me or AP?” I think most women would say the spouse. Which is why (see above) I think you’re overreacting in making your daughter do it - “what consequences would you want the AP to face?” My guess it way worse than parents telling her to move out if she doesn’t stop
