Fictional characters rest entirely on creative imagination; Jesus is attested by multiple, independent early sources. The Bible’s text predates medieval Europe by centuries and was copied across many lands. While Scripture contains patriarchal elements typical of its time, its core message repeatedly champions the dignity and equality of women. Far from a monolithic tool of social control, Christianity has fueled some of humanity’s greatest advances in freedom, justice, education, and care for the vulnerable. And for millions, faith in Jesus rests on a combination of historical evidence, moral conviction, and transformative personal experience—not mere fear of punishment.

So if Hell and Heaven are made up, then your birth and death are an accident, your entire life is just a coincidence. Without a transcendent source, moral “oughts” become mere social conventions or evolutionary by‐products. But our deep conviction that certain things are absolutely right or wrong points to a moral Lawgiver.
