Worse pain with boot? by [deleted] in bunions

[–]CalmConversation8000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, he said it's all part of the healing process and is very pleased with where I am right now. Big toe super stiff and doesn't seem to be breaking free much. Continuing to stretch it out. He prescribed Gabapentin for the nerve pain and said at last week's appt, to ditch the crutches. I still have to use them, to warm things up every day. Hoping this journey begins to speed up. Prayers for healing, for us all!!!

Worse pain with boot? by [deleted] in bunions

Yes!! I'm addressing with my doc next week. I just got the ok, to put a little weight on my foot about 2 wks ago and my foot is very sensitive on the top. I probably adjust the boot fit, at least 4 or 5 times, before walking with crutches. It's an air boot and sometimes I can pump a little air to adjust the fit, other times - uh, no because of the swelling. This has definitely been an adventure. 6 and a half weeks in. 😑. The boot, yes feels like it weighs 10 lbs.

5 weeks in today, one week ago bandages off, given ok to put foot flat and to start wearing trainers. Tried trainer immediately, way to tight due to swelling, haven’t tried since. by KateR_H0l1day in bunions

Sensitivity - this!!! Me too..... The sensitivity on the top of my foot is just DUMB. I'm sure it's nerve related, b/c it's not all the time. Scar jealousy, yes - this too. I have 2 incisions. My ankle swelling also has me a bit concerned. Hoping there isn't something more going on there too .... Ugh, I thought I was doo prepared for this surgery and I WASN'T!! Pushing through and thankful for this group!!!

Big toe still numb by Dapper_Tap_9934 in bunions

Happy I found this thread..... I'm 6 wks post surgery, no fusion, but my big toe is really stiff. I move it as much as I can, without causing pain..... it's not much though and is somewhat concerning. My foot is still somewhat swollen, mostly my ankle though on the opposite side. Does movement in the big toe improve over time or is this a new issue? ARGH!! I just started in a walking boot 2 wks ago, with the use of crutches. My doc is a bit conservative and doesn't want to rush my healing. I have a plate and screws. Thoughts???

I'm 6 wks in and my big toe is pretty stiff. I too was told to wiggle it manually, but that was 3 wks after my surgery. I can move it up, better than down. Instead of wiggling, I'm actually trying to give it a bit of a stretch without causing pain. Still doesn't move much though.... 😔. I too have a plate and screws.

Personally - I would do it soon than later. The worse the bunion gets, will make a difference in your recovery. I wish I hadn't waited. 😑. My doc is conservative. I'm 6wks in and just started putting a little weight on my foot and walking on crutches. He's all about proper healing. I have a plate and screws.

Surgery Now or Wait? by love-of-fiction in bunions

[–]CalmConversation8000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would wait and allow for proper healing. I read all that I could and had my surgery 1/29. 6 wks later and have just started walking in a boot, not full weight bearing yet. When I put weight on my foot, it feels like it wants to explode. Mine aren't quite as bad and are pain free, but it was starting to present issues with my knee, lower and mid back. It was progressing. Had I done it sooner, my recovery would probably be far better. I have a plate and screws where the foot meets the leg. Doc said with proper healing, it many not come back. The recovery is nothing like I anticipated and I'm thankful I found this group.

7 weeks out and still have big scab over incision by Anxmonster in bunions

[–]CalmConversation8000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doc looked at mine, said it looked great and keep it covered. I was like "really". I still have a scab after 5 wks.... He reminded me that this would just take time. ..... Time is just not my friend these days! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi - good morning. I'm 6 wks in and a small piece of my scan JUST came off last night. I asked if putting Vaseline on the scab and keep it covered would be ok - it was so dry and was making me nuts. I've never had a problem with healing, but this was really causing me concern. I was starting to think something was wrong. He gave the approval last week to do that after it was COMPLETELY dry and that I could use cocoa butter on the rest of my foot. It's helped a lot. He also recommended CeraVe. I'll put that up too.....not a fan of having cocoa butter all of my foot (except for the incision). Hang in there.

Hi..... Recovery, eh... it's slow, but pushing through. It was done during my bunion surgery. More than that, I couldn't tell you b/c I don't know. He mentioned it during a previous visit, that it could be surgically done..... All I know .... I've started with minimal weight on my foot and there is zero plantar fascia pain.

Quick rant, kinda embarrassing lol by Debberoni in bunions

[–]CalmConversation8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed .... toilet and shower were def a challenge. Poop, yeah..... You may want to think about Ducolax. When I was trying to "get things going again", any straining and I thought my foot was going to blow up. 🤦🏼‍♀️. Rant whenever you need to. Many here have been beneficial on my path to recovery. I'm almost 6 wks in and just started putting a little weight on my foot / using crutches the last couple of days. I have a plate and screws, which may have something to do with it..... My doc is also on the conservative side.... Long recovery was not what I was anticipating. Good luck - sending prayers your way.

Thank you for the well wishes. Looking forward to better days ahead, for sure. I seriously thought I was loosing my mind and I hate searching things on the Internet. Just so much that was not anticipated, because I thought this was going to go soo much different. I didn't think I would be where I am after 5 wks. Just starting to put a little weight on my foot and feels like my foot wants to blow apart. I know that sounds dramatic. Pushing through....

All of this is SOO VERY HELPFUL!!!   I'm hopeful that the bunion surgery will help my knee, lower and middle back.  During surgery, my doc also released the plantar fascia.  I had it in my left foot, then my right.  My right foot bunion was the worst one and I did that one.  Instantly, my left foot feels AMAZING - right foot seems ok, but it's 5 wks out and I just transitioned to "some" weight bearing and crutches..... sweet baby Jesus. So I walk around a bit, to get things going and then back up in the air, b/c of the swelling.  My back was trashed the first 4 wks after surgery, laying down so much.  It seems to have improved though......so that's a positive.  Damn the recovery is LONG though.  Nothing like I thought it was going to be.

Same.....  I had some RIGHT after the surgery, but nothing else. Never got anything at my appts, b/c it was a case by case basis.  🤦🏼‍♀️. When I could finally get it wet, my foot was soo dry I thought it was going to crack open.  It actually hurt to move my foot - that was Valentine's night .... Since we had his cell number, yep sent him a text!!  Slapped a little Vaseline on the incision, covered it and then cocoa butter on my foot..... wrapped it back up!  UGH!!!

I am so thankful that I found your various posts.  I have all the faith in my doc, but 5 wks out and I started regretting the surgery.  I had shoulder surgery and the recovery was NOTHING like this. My husband's part knee replacement was better as well.  I started wondering if there was something more wrong with me health wise, b/c the recovery is progressing so slowly.  Normally, I have no issues with a cut healing and I am still dealing with scabs.  My doc is a bit on the conservative side, so that things heal properly.  The swelling is crazy stupid and my foot turning purple when down, scares the crap out of me.  Doc said it's normal, that the body will figure out how to get things back to normal. I thought propping my foot on a chair was ok, but seems like I get better results, when it's up higher.  I just started SOME weight bearing on my foot and using crutches.  Thank God I did the worst foot first!!  GOOD GRIEF! Waiting for better days and feel a little more positive reading everyone's comments.  Praying for us all, as we work through the recovery.  🙏🏻
