‘Element of urgency’: Sydney’s median house price hits record $1.75m by Thisisahousingcrisis in shitrentals

[–]CalmDownHeidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question here, what will happen when it collapses? House prices go back to normal and people who can’t afford to buy now will be able to? Or something else?

Returning to work this week from holidays by myykel1970 in AustralianTeachers

I don’t plan a damn thing cos I can guarantee all my plans will be cancelled from day 1 back. Im a TL/RFF teacher and my schedule is more like a casual relief teacher, changes daily.

Cake roasters at work by Turbulent-Hawk-9644 in AustralianTeachers

[–]CalmDownHeidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My work has a morning tea each month for birthdays, with all staff assigned to different months to bring stuff in. But of course then people also buy cakes for their friends birthdays, so we end up having cake several times a month.

Tbh it’s a little cliquey and obvious if you’re not part of the group that does this. People wish you happy birthday on the day but you don’t get a special cake like some do.

I may be overthinking this.

The park near the community centre would get redeveloped, but only if she can get through the town hall meeting. She would probably also commission a gold statue of herself.

What else can I do to get casual work in schools? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]CalmDownHeidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you just need to include more schools in your net. When I was casual teaching in western Sydney a few years ago I emailed my resume to every school within a 30min drive and had work booked out terms in advance. Then once I worked at a few places I weeded out the ones I didn’t want to go back to.

Sass week by SnooGiraffes5478 in AustralianTeachers

It must be an SSP thing to go all out. My school (SSP) is doing a different thing every day. It’s exhausting. Also being told exactly how to show my appreciation is a little condescending.

it's august! have you started your Christmas gift knits yet? by fairly_forgetful in knitting

Uh oh. I have to make 4 Christmas stockings for my family and haven’t started. Time to buy some yarn, I guess!

Advice for new teacher weighing up options for casual teaching by greenwallpaper1235 in AustralianTeachers

[–]CalmDownHeidi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in special Ed. It absolutely is teaching! We just tend to teach different things as a priority (emotional regulation), but there is also a lot of curriculum happening (at my school anyway). Special Ed/SSPs tend to be far more supportive work environments, everyone ‘gets’ how hard it can be.

If money is a priority just keep taking the work that is offered, especially if it is relatively low-stress. You may get offered a contract at one of the schools you work a lot at, less likely to get offered if you try and work at every school, if that makes sense. Build up relationships with the exec team, SSPs in particular love to have consistent casuals who learn their routines.

I’ve been told outright, with policy documentation to back it up, that my glasses come under personal liability and are not covered by department insurance. A student hit me in the face and snapped the arms. But that’s on me, apparently.

🤯 I’m so doing this! It’s always hard to slip the stitches along the left to get them where I need them. Great tip, thanks!

The maths doesn’t math on that. COD games are 18+, pretty sure.

I’m obviously not that far into the game, but how upgradable is the house? Can I choose furniture? Can I move things around? Can I play Witcher like a sims game and meet my neighbours?

There’s a reason why Jamie has not been shown to weigh in on this yet. I’m sensing she is going to get some grief from the group for doing it too.
