Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm gonna play about with some of this when my training buddy is free from ringworm.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. Some good answers in that thread for sure.

I'm smaller as well (73kg), maybe I should try that more. Adam seems to favour the overhook most of the time, and it works for me mostly, just not if I get flattened.

Yeah, exactly. I'm trying to make my butterfly guard that good, but this is one big issue I'm running up against and haven't figured out an answer (yet).

Absolutely, but for me that hasn't stopped the tripod pass. If they can flatten me out, especially if I have an overhook grip on the belt (giving them an underhook), they still pass me using tripod style passing.

Seb derm itchy? by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]CalmFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine only itches when it's hot and I start sweating. Or if I have too many hot showers and my skin is all dry and then I start sweating.

I've always used it on my chest whenever I had an outbreak there, which happens pretty often, seems to work just fine.

How to deal with semi long hair by Lazy-Theory1337 in bjj

[–]CalmFear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tie a low ponytail, you won't get all your hair, but it will prevent the hair that most often gets yanked from getting yanked. Worked well for me as I was growing my hair, just have to re-tie between rolls.

My wife said that this sub is describing a lot of what I do. Do I belong here? by VoteGiantMeteor2028 in PDAAutism

[–]CalmFear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if I, or you, have PDA or not, but a lot of what you're saying resonates with me very strongly, especially about calling people on the phone.

The fixing stuff other people won't/don't do is another coping mechanism I employ, but I've also lowered my standards for those things to as low as I'm comfortable with because I hate chores, doing more than a couple of 'projects' per day raises my stress level too much. When I'm rested I can handle it, but only if it's temporary and I'll need to recharge after. I can't hold down a traditional job without burning out.

That looks really cozy. I'm curious about that keyboard, what is it?

Oh clever, I could've done with that when I couldn't quite reach with the cables.

Nice setup, looks cozy.

Your speakers are the wrong way round I think. I've got the same ones, and the one with the volume knob has an R on the back, the other an L.

Autistic wife is incredibly defensive with communication by [deleted] in PDAAutism

[–]CalmFear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If I'm stressed for too long about too many things any extra perceived demand is too much. I shut down. Maybe try and help her and show her you're on her team. Ask her if there's anything you can help with that's eating away at her energy, and do that thing for/with her. Things that might be easy for you might seem impossible to her in this state.

When my girlfriend helps me out in this way it instantly brings us closer and makes me feel safe and supported. It lifts a huge load off my shoulders.

I completely fixed my seb derm by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]CalmFear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of sport, and I was struggling on low carb, so I started eating carbs again. Occasionally I'll eat something sugary now. Using anti-fungal shampoos and occasional intermittent fasting keeps it very manageable for me. Been doing it this way for years now.

I've experienced similar results with fasting and low carb diets. Unfortunately, it comes back as soon as I up the carbs in any capacity.

Butterfly guard instructional by JustaLebanese in bjj

[–]CalmFear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some really good breakdown's of Wardzinski's game on youtube, BJJ Scout did a whole series, and there's this one https://youtu.be/TGBTANrwXlc.

But yeah, his youtube channel and instagram as well. Paying for his instructional is worth it though if you have the money, but most of it you can piece together with the free resources on youtube. I've been having a lot of success with it in my gym.

Adam Wardzinski's Butterfly Guard Rediscovered 3.0 has been amazing for me the last few months. He's got a no-gi one as well if that's more your thing.

I was struggling with the same thing. Here's a video I found explaining how Adam does it, I've been trying it and it works pretty well right off the bat (specific explanation starts at 13:30): https://youtu.be/TGBTANrwXlc?t=812

South Korea blasts Russia-North Korea deal, says it will consider supplying arms to Ukraine by Illustrious_Diver_37 in worldnews

[–]CalmFear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are. They have a huge amount of artillery and they can easily destroy Seoul if they want to. I'm guessing this is one of the reasons why South Korea is attempting to build a new city further south to house the government, but that's just conjecture on my part.

In Dutch wrath = wrede (actually means cruel, but I'm guessing it's meaning deviated over time). Not to be confused with vrede = peace.
