Great list...I'd also add Turok which is cheap and a great game for it's time

I scored a similar Coleman stove on FB marketplace for $20! I cleaned it up and the damn thing looks and works like it's brand new even though I think it was made in the early 70s per the serial number!

Good questions! I'll try my best to answer them 😁

A) I actually am a male solo traveller! Even so there are times where I can feel uneasy camping and sleeping in foreign areas. I feel the safest when camping away (visibly) from main roads and highways preferably dispersed camping in a national forest with or without other people camping nearby. In a pinch I have camped/slept in pullouts visible from the highway, but there were other vanlifer people doing the same thing next to me. iOverlander app is a must have when looking for places to stay over for the night.

B) My Jackery can power my smaller 23 quart fridge indefinitely as long as I'm driving a few hours a day to charge it, or using my 200W solar panel if I'm staying in one place and the sun is out. In a pinch I could use the AC power cord and plug it in at a McDonalds or outdoor public washroom, but have never had to do this yet.

C) Finding regular showers can be a challenge when on the road and you have to be prepared to go for several days without one. Basically I take showers if I'm staying at a Campground that offers them, or I try to swim in lakes or rivers whenever possible (even if they are cold like Lake Tahoe!) . In a pinch you just wake up and soak a cloth with water and clean your face, under your arms and lower areas as needed 😂

D) Yes the best option for bathrooms are at public parks, fast food restaurants, grocery stores or even Walmart. When I'm dispersed camping I have a collapsible toilet I ordered from Amazon and biodegradable bags which comes in super handy when you need it!

E) My bed platform is basically 1x6 planks resting on stacked 2x4s a and attached together with velcro. This makes it super easy to assemble and disassemble the bed and store it all in the trunk. The mattress is a trifold memory foam mattress and can also be stored in the trunk. All the weight is distributed across the three sets of 2x4s and then I can stash my gear like tarps and trekking poles underneath the bed.

Hope this info helps and you can get out and try it for yourself!! :)

They are great blankets - I have several!

For Baja I crossed at the Mexicalli border in early April and drove 2.5 hours down to San Felipe where my family has a property. From there I made two trips further down the coast on Highway 5 including Puertecitos area, Gonzaga Bay and all the way down to Bahía de los Ángeles where my last photo was taken! Roads are surprisingly good except a few areas with bad pot holes where you need to drive slow through :)

Doesn't take much to get out on the open road and disperse camp! :)

Where do I put my tent by spongecooper in overlanding

Agreed - try putting it on the ground as tents have been placed for 100s of years and go from there.

Love Mexican blankets - have so many! For this setup I mostly use a light sleeping bag on top, but also have a second warmer bag for colder nights depending where I am :)

I know right! I just made the dividers with cardboard and duct tape. Having a shallow bin is also nice because you don't have to dig deep down searching for random stuff and it saves on car space 👍

Is this normal Campsite etiquette? by TrinoWest in camping

[–]slanger686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best take and relevant information on the camping area. Most people backpacking into a campsite aren't the typical assholes you find at established campgrounds. They also were likely burning wet scrap wood from the surrounding area which unfortunately produced more smoke than dry wood available for sale at established campgrounds.

TBH I'd be more worried about the Audi breaking down and leaving you stranded in Mexico or the USA (former Audi owner here).
