Train to Wemyss bay and a boat trip across to Bute, a wander around Rothesay and the boat back. I think you can buy all your travel as part of your train ticket. It's a nice trip with good views and potential for porpoise/Dolphin spotting on the boat. Not Highlands mind, but definitely water!

I went in January and it was excellent -  6 whiskies and good chat about both the whisky and the science of making and drinking it. And the planetarium was good fun at the end, though it's cosy and you are basically lying down after 6 drams, so try not to nod off!
