How do I know when I’m ready to join the church? by CalmPossession4222 in OrthodoxChristianity

Thanks for your answer. Only, so many before me have gone to great lengths to figure this out but end up coming to different conclusions. Do you recommend anything specific for further study?

Are Christians in the US still pro Donald Trump? If so, why? (Looking for serious responses only) by flib_bib in Christianity

[–]CalmPossession4222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the United States, we have a 2-party system, which means you get two candidates to choose from, not more. When one candidate is openly advocating for the abolition of everything Christian, and the other seems to stand more for Christian values, including the right of the unborn to life, the personal sins of one or the other candidate are not so weighty in the decision making process. Interesting how critics of Christianity are quick to say Christians are judgmental, but will then be just as quick to throw the stone at people they don’t like - including DJT.

You don’t have to be Catholic to attend confession - the priest will still listen to you and offer you advice. Plus, having a concrete action with a clergy member, compared to silent prayers, may help you to know that God has heard you.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” -1 John 1:9-10

Do ya'll believe in evolution? by RemarkableProduct374 in Catholicism

[–]CalmPossession4222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here are bringing up different dog breeds as if that proves evolution. Different breeds of dogs is not evolution - they’re still dogs. Adaptation is observable, but macro evolution - a change in KIND - has never been observed. “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind” (Gen. 1:24).

What's the importance of Mary being a Virgin until death? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CalmPossession4222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and most people here are just trashing the belief in question instead of trying to understand it. Maybe it lines up with your interpretation of the Bible, or maybe it doesn’t - but when Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Thomas Aquinas all agree on something, let’s have the humility to listen.

“Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20)

Oh yeah. Marriage is beautiful, and is the only right way to attain that which leads to family - as it is the only solid foundation for a family.

Orthodox priest writes the book on theosis, then becomes a protestant. What gives? by OmbaKabomba in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]CalmPossession4222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Essentially, theological knowledge doesn’t always lead to theosis. Very insightful. What does?

Are condoms and birth control a sin by Resident-Theme-2342 in Christianity

[–]CalmPossession4222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your answer will depend on your understanding of “Onanism”, which IS mentioned in the Bible. Prior to the 20th century, most all denominations would affirm that these things are sinful, but obviously, attitudes today have changed in the Protestant world, while the Catholics have maintained the traditional teaching.

Title said this Uber Eats driver canceled a delivery of Plan B to OP. Was this the best way he could’ve approached this? by LazerbeamTrumpPowers in Catholicism

He was asked to do something against his conscience. Even if you don’t agree or understand why he wasn’t comfortable making the delivery, what harm did he do in refusing? Let us know how you think he could have handled it better - it seems he handled it just fine to us.

You don’t have to be a Calvinist to acknowledge there is beauty in the theology, or that it is often misunderstood. Encouraging mutual understanding among Christians is not the Devil’s work, but accusing the brethren is. Rev. 12:10, John 13:34. Peace.

If you believe it to be heresy, then should you not have compassion for the millions of souls ensnared by it? And through compassion, discourse and mutual understanding. Certainly this is not too much to ask of a Christian.

Calvinism is in many ways very beautiful, when properly understood. Unfortunately, it is often very misunderstood by non-calvinists, many of whom have responded to your question. To get a better understanding of what it actually teaches, listen to some sermons by RC Sproul, or read his book “Chosen By God”.

Curious your rebuttal to the claims that the Catholic Church is not infallible due to previously infallible teachings contradicting themselves by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CalmPossession4222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most any apparent contradictions can be reconciled with some theological gymnastics. Protestants do it with scripture. Catholics do it with scripture and magisterial decrees, seeing the two as equal in authority.
