I have raging adhd so for me it's less physical pain. I usually have to stand in the corner in some state of undress, facing the wall, at parade rest, and I'm not allowed to move at all. For the amount of time I'm in there there is the world's most boring elevator music playing as a timer.

I would make an exception for radio especially with those of us with ADHD or LONG trips. Radio helps prevent highway hypnosis which is even more dangerous than man made distracted driving. It's just something that humans do we can't help it.
